We used Ontario Standby Power to install a gas generator to future proof our home from power outages that are common in our area. Customer service was good during the quote, installation and payment phases. Customer service started to go downhill after they received our money and got us into their service warranty plan. City of Toronto inspectors identified unsafe electrical installation by this company so they had to return to fix their error. The local gas provider then contacted us and told us that they noticed a 40% increase in one month gas bill that was unusual for our normal household usage. They warned us this amount of gas was most likely due to a gas leak created by the generator company that tapped the generator into the gas line as part of installation. The company had to return to correct the unsafe gas leak they created but other than that the owner refused to acknowledge his mistake or compensate us for the 40% increase in gas bill during the month of the leak (this resulted in more than $200 extra on our bill). Other than a few email exchanges with us, the owner stopped responding completely, even though we paid his company $10,000. The gas generator is sold and installed by all local hardware stores. Once this company has your money and locks you into their service warranty, the owner is not interested in maintaining customer service.
