We have hired contractors in the recent past for 2 kitchen renovations and a complete home build but nothing prepared us for the experience with Wayne Graham of Graham's & Son Interiors. We hired Wayne for interior house painting, new floors and a kitchen renovation for a home we purchased in Cambridge. The work was to be done over the course of the 4 weeks or so prior to our move from Oakville to Cambridge. While we could have hired a contractor that we were familiar with from Oakville we believe in hiring locally and so found and hired Mr. Graham who was a BBB certified contractor with 30+ years of experience.
However, despite his years of experience, a multitude of errors caused a great deal of stress to our family as well as delay, additional costs and for myself, lost income. These errors were the result of bad design as well as a major lack of oversight by Mr. Graham over his contractors.
Here's a sampling of those errors:
•Powder room was torn out before we had agreed to upgrade it
•Two small floods-the first was caused by a demo crew leaving a waterline on the floor of the kitchen before leaving for the July long weekend with resulting water soaking the downstairs carpet. A second flood soaked the same area but was caused by debris left by the painting crew in the laundry room sink.
•3 rooms were painted the incorrect colour despite the fact that we provided a detailed 2 page summary of paint colours by room which included paint chips
•There was inadequate clean up after the painting was completed (windows painted shut, hardware missing and a paint speckled dining room chandelier)
•Despite the fact that appliance specs were provided, both the wall ovens and hood fan did not fit into the kitchen as constructed. As well, the depth of the kitchen windowsill was not taken into consideration by Mr Graham and as a result, the only way we could get any standard faucet to fit into the sink was by removing a chunk of the windowsill, Nice!
•An overly zealous demo crew removed all of the window frames in the kitchen
•Several Items included in the design and quote were missed like the under cabinet lighting, some outlets etc
We had great faith in Mr. Graham but it evolved into a complete disaster. A summer ruined as well as a transition into a new City which has been difficult to overcome. Mr Graham maybe able to sell and supply drapes which we believe now to be his major area of expertise. But we would caution anyone considering hiring his firm for renovation or contracting services.
