We hired Braeside Construction to add an addition to our Elmvale Acres home. They constructed a new front entrance (mud room), removed the wall between our kitchen and dining rooms and installed tile throughout. Curtis Baum and his team were very professional. They were on time, kept the job site clean and had no hiccups. We would definitely hire Braeside again.

We just completed our second, family project with Braeside Construction, insulating and drywalling our 24’ x 27’ garage (shop) and couldn’t be happier. The job was completed as quoted and in a timely manner. Adam and Ralph were a delight to work with, arriving on time and putting in a good days work. They showed respect for our property, leaving things clean and safe at the end of each day. When an issue arose in the ceiling, Curtis worked to find the best solution, without delaying the job. We highly recommend Braeside and will certainly use them again, on our next project.

Braeside Construction did an amazing job of adding a custom curbless accessible shower to the main floor powder room. Curtis was really good in setting the budget and schedule and as a result, we had the shower completed on time and within budget.

The unexpected issues that arose were dealt with at very reasonable cost (we needed some duct work to be moved). Curtis used certified electricians and certified plumbers. As such, all the work was warrantied and to code, which was a relief, as many contractors try to get away with doing the required work themselves. The pricing was reasonable and mid-range for the estimates I had acquired from others (not the cheapest and not the most expensive). The work was done in an efficient manner, and the end result was an amazing curbless accessible glass and tile shower, with a high end modern look and feel for the cost of a standard bathroom shower.

Curtis set various allowances for the fixtures and tile, so that gave us the leeway with going with different options and personalizing the tiles... e.t.c to our taste.

We really enjoyed working with Curtis and Scott (his sub-contractor) on getting this project completed. We received the estimate in early March before COVID-19 restrictions came into effect, and he kept his word to do the work as soon as he was permitted to in May. Once the restrictions were lifted, they observed all the rules for masks and social distancing, etc. The work site was cleaned up at the end of each day, and an overall cleaning done on the last day.

We are tremendously pleased with the work completed by Curtis and his crew. He dedicates his crew to your project solely, so it is completed in a prompt manner. Therefore, we had NO issues with contractors jumping between multiple sites causing delays.

We would definitely be using Curtis again for future projects, and highly recommend them for your renovations.

After getting numerous quotes and researching through Homestars, we decided on Braeside and I am very happy with the results. We completely redid our master bath and Curtis and his team worked with us every step of the way. There were a few surprises along the way (a sub floor filled in with concrete...the discovery of no insulation AT ALL in the walls... a bathroom vent to nowhere....). All of these surprises were addressed calmly and with options and costs, as well as the impacts of each potential decision discussed and clarified so we could make informed decisions.The result is a bathroom we absolutely love, that exceeds our expectations. We would not hesitate to recommend Curtis to our friends, and in fact have already done so. We also look forward to working with him on future projects as we continue to improve our home.

“We started our house renovations 11 years ago and decided to leave the kitchen until the end. We contacted Curtis from Braeside construction and reviewed what we wanted. We found him to be very knowledgeable about kitchen renovations and offered to help with the design services. His team was very respectful of the job site, they applied floor coverings and sealed off the kitchen from the rest of the house. At the end of every day the floors were vacuumed and the tools were placed away. We decided on custom kitchen cabinets from Miralis which added to the complexity of the kitchen and the job. Curtis completed the demo and re-build on schedule on was very flexible in being on site when the cabinets were delivered and when the appliances were installed. With any renovation there are always issues that can't be foreseen and Curtis was quick to offer solutions. Our kitchen is complete and we can't be happier with the outcome.

In Spring 2019, we had Curtis and his staff finish our basement, providing us with additional space for our family to relax and entertain from. From the beginning, it was clear we had a good team that would work with us and what we wanted, keeping us within our budget, and we were confident we would end up with a fantastic product.

All members of the team on site were professional, courteous and patient with our family (2 curious young boys and a dog). The site was always secured at end of day, and the rest of our house didn't feel like it was a disaster during the renovation.

Curtis kept the project moving and when we had minor delays due to materials, available trades, or inspections, we were well informed, and I could see efforts were being made to keep the project progressing.

The feedback on pricing and option selection allowed us to either splurge or be more budget conscious in the areas that made the most sense. Curtis offered good recommendations for where to go for our selections and knowledge on which options were going to impact cost or be a schedule factor.

As work progressed, we felt confident of the quality of the work and the attention we were receiving, and we benefited from clear and frequent communication.

Notably, an issue was found as drywall was pulled back, and a leak was found. We were given time to bring in/resolve work that was not within Braeside's wheelhouse, without being rushed into a decision to make schedule. Work continued in other areas, and as the external work was completed, the team on site managed additional interactions with another team without issue.

The pay schedule was more than fair; we had confidence we were paying for the materials and labor as the work progressed, by transferring funds in multiple instalments, per the discussions at the outset of the project. There was never a fear that our funds weren't going to be applied to our project or that our project was going to run over budget.

The end result is exactly what we were hoping for, and a very pleasant experience - we'd highly recommend Curtis and the team at Braeside Construction for similar renovations.

I hired Braeside Construction to renovate three bathrooms in my home (a main floor powder room, and two full upstairs bathrooms) which was constructed in 1985 and had no such updates done since that time. From the very beginning I felt at ease with Curtis and that I could completely trust him to honestly guide me through this process, which was something I had never previously experienced on such a scale.

I didn’t just want to update the current bathrooms, but to transform them into something beautiful. I believe that Curtis and his employee Adam did exactly that for me. Understanding how lacking in knowledge I was about all that needed to be decided, Curtis actually went with me to various tile, plumbing, moulding, lighting and paint suppliers to help with my choices.

I ended up with a new front hallway, closet and powder room; completely changed upstairs family bathroom; and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in curb less shower with bench that will be able to accommodate a walker in future if absolutely necessary. Throughout, the attention to detail and quality was painstaking and the resulting workmanship impeccable.

I don’t believe I could have found a better team than Curtis and Adam. They were a pleasure to have in my home and I look forward to having them back to complete my next renovation.

Curtis from Braeside Construction was instrumental in helping me confirm what was possible for my master bath renovation. I found him through Home Stars, and, after checking his business on BBB, I contacted him during the summer of 2019.
He made multiple visits and quotes for the project to help me determine what was possible. He brought his trusted sub trades on site to confirm that the moving of the plumbing was possible in our situation. His electrician was able to confirm for us the projects scope and what would be the best course of action. The decisions were easier to make because of the information obtained from his sources. After visiting a current work site of his, the work started here at the beginning of November, 2019.

I wanted a very specific function for this Master bath. It needed to be totally accessible for the eventuality of wheelchair use. And it needed to be aesthetically pleasing as I am a person who is obsessed with details. Together, we found solutions for creating a completely wheelchair accessible shower area. This necessitated communications with the Schluter company to trouble shoot my request to introduce a heated floor and shower bench in the shower area as well as the rest of the floors in the bathroom. The location of the drain for example was paramount to avoid the wear and tear that would be present with wheelchair use.

The scope of the project went beyond the walls of the bathroom. He also modified the entrance to the bedroom removing a niche doorway to allow a pocket door to be installed for access to the bathroom, modified the walk-in closet area and refinished the bedroom floors, ceiling, trim and paint. All the floors needed to flow with no height transitions from one room to the other. This was beautifully done.

I had very high expectations for this project that were definitely attained. The execution of both work and design and the attention to details in all aspects of the project was done to my satisfaction. He was very attentive to my needs and addressed them all within reason always giving me an acceptable solution to the problem at hand. He did not shy away from doing things differently and worked with me finding the materials and tools required to get the job done right. He had the knowledge and the common sense to trouble shoot difficult situations that were encountered throughout the project and find the right solutions for what was in front of him.

He and Adam, his employee, were always on time, polite, conscientious, and maintained a clean and safe work space. The scope of work, all things considered, was executed in a timely fashion. I would strongly recommend Braeside construction to anyone who wants a job done right.

“Braeside construction did a complete renovation of our main and en-suite bathrooms. From the moment we met Curtis we had a good feeling about him. When he arrived to give us a quote, he was honest and direct about the work that needed to be done. The quote we received was fair and realistic.
