Haince took on a reno project in Halifax for which he quoted $52,000. After running $20,000 over budget and 50% over schedule he was fired. He put a fraudulent lien on the property which was thrown out by the Appeals Court after a 2-year legal battle. A new contractor was brought in to finish the job but it cost over $30,000 to have him correct Haince's sloppy workmanship and building code violations. For example - the picture below shows the back wall of the laundry. Haince had reported it as finished and collected his milestone payment. The new contractor found it when he pulled the washer and dryer out. Similarly, he was supposed to clean up the wiring of the house, which had mostly "knob and tube" hardware. He reported having finished the job and demanded his progress payment. He was paid, and this is what he left behind. The new contractor had to replace the service panel.
- Approximate cost of services:
- $72,000.00
