His rate was $60 service call + $10 per 10 minutes of labour (he now charges $15/15). At the time he came out, the microwave was working, and charged 20 minutes of labour - total came to $80 + tax. I questioned why he charged for 20 minutes of labour while he was only there for 5 minutes, and he mentioned he counts the time it takes for him to travel from his car to the unit, and back which is a very odd practice and isn't "labour". Regardless, I paid him.
Unfortunately, it stopped working the next day and I indicated that just because something is working at the time, is not sufficient enough to say there is nothing wrong with it. He mentioned he will come back, and will only charge for parts & labour. After coming out, he mentioned all 3 switches on the door should be replaced as that is causing the issue, and that he would need to get the parts and come back to install it. He later on did, but also charged me $30 for a return trip charge
So, overall, he fixed it, but charged unfairly, as I shouldn't have had to pay for his first visit since he didn't assess the problem correctly. I did notice he has now updated his site to reflect the extra $30 return fee if it's needed to install parts.
