Ceiling resurfacing kitchen and dining room
Mark refinished our ceiling in the kitchen and dining room it required a number of patches of holes that were created when we changed our lighting fixtures. The actual patches we’re quite well done and we cannot see where the previous holes existed. The reason for the low review is that the overall job was left incomplete and attempts to contact Mark have been ignored following a conversation where he refused two retouch some very rough places in the job. Lighting fixtures were not removed nor were they requested to be removed. He covered them with paper and plastic. He did this for all pendants and for pot lights the result was that both pendants in the kitchen were caked with drywall and fingerprints from oil based sealant when he finished the job. The chandelier in the dining room was also caked with drywall especially the main hanging bolt. Our main request was that he come back to smooth out rough edges that were preventing the pot lights from sitting flush to the ceiling this was caused by the pot lights simply being taped and not pull down. We also asked him to sand down the area around a plate that was left on the ceiling and not removed as it should be. The plate holds our smoke detector and could easily be covered up once the smoke detector was installed but the roughness of the finish around this plate prevented us from reinstalling the unit. Mark refused to touch up either of these concerns. Both of these concerns can be see in the pictures. We are also unhappy with the edges around the ceiling where the ceiling meets the wall. These edges are extremely rough and will require us to do more work ourselves. Mark had spent a great deal of time putting up plastic and laying paper to protect the floors, Walls , Fireplace, appliances and countertops. Partway through the job the plastic started to come down from the ceiling due to the moisture. We have since discovered that Mark stapled the plastic to the walls around the perimeter of the room to keep it from falling. This damage the walls and has not been addressed. And it failed to provide protection to our appliances, countertops,, cabinets, fireplace, and floors.
We originally contacted the job at $1500 but agreed to pay an additional $500 to have Mark seal and paint the ceiling. Mark told us the cost of the oil based paint would be at least $300. When the job was done the ceiling had been unevenly sprayed with a primer / sealer. Mark claims that he never agreed to paint the ceiling.
The job was left a horrible mess due to the plastic being completely ineffective and mark not cleaning up after the job. Drywall dust was thick on the hardwood floor, counters, inside cabinets and on appliances. Think dried drywall compound covered faceplates on lighting fixtures and caked on the bolt supporting the dining room chandelier. Nearly an inch of drywall compound needs to be scrubbed off of the stone fireplace where it meets the ceiling.
I paid Mark in good faith immediately following the job and asked him to come in to touch up the ceiling around the lights and fire detector. We did the massive dust cleanup ourselves. I also questioned him about the ceiling paint. He became angry and left and will not respond to our calls or texts. If you have a patch to fill he might be ok but if you have a larger job where you want a pro to give you a professionally finished product I would not recommend.

Thank you, Lori, for taking the time to leave a review. I take all customer feedback seriously and appreciate you bringing these concerns to my attention.
There were definitely some miscommunications during this project, and I apologize for any frustration that caused.
In regards to the specific points you mentioned I was always happy to return to address any touch-up issues, as we discussed.
As a drywall contractor, I typically recommend separate painting for optimal results, especially in older homes with potential staining. However, I understand if this wasn't communicated clearly.
I believe in providing excellent service, and I'm always happy to answer any questions or discuss projects in more detail beforehand to ensure a smooth experience. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me directly
