Eco Exterior

We hired Ryan and his company - Eco Exteriors based on his good reviews on Homestars. After reaching out to him, he responded immediately, he met with us in person, and even left some samples with us for review. He looked like a very qualified person, and based on his reviews, it appeared he was a good guy. We gave him our deposit of $3769.00. We also signed a contract that stated that the work would be completed within 6-8 weeks of first deposit. That was last July 2021.
I was VERY patient, and VERY reasonable with the delays. It took alot of texting and no-shows after promising to show up, just to get his crew to install SOME strapping and SOME Tyvek house wrap. Then he was MIA again. He said that the Hardi board had not arrived, so we waited patiently, and in the mean time, I asked him if he could replace my gutters (an extra). He made me pay for the material, but offered the labour "as a gesture of good faith because of my patience". But this again was after sending very frustrated texts for literally months. The gutters were done in November.
Again I was strung along on the belief that the Hardboard was still delayed, but that he assured me he could still install during the winter months once the material arrived.
It took him until March 2022 to finally say there is no material. I told him that I wanted a final meeting to repair the gutter work that he did incorrectly (leaking), and to resolve the outstanding monies. He promised to show up the next day...

Of course I wasn't surprised when he didn't show.
And of course I wasn't surprised when he never answered my texts.

So because he did SOME work, I believe I am out about $2200....not as bad as the others he stiffed, but it's still a chunk of change nonetheless.

I believe I was very reasonable and fair with his behaviour and his delays. I am very disappointed that he doesn't even have the decency to take responsibility for his actions, and return monies that are clearly not his.
Shame on you Ryan. These actions will come to bite you in the butt...and based on what I saw - it appeared that it has.

It's too bad because I think you actually DO know your stuff, and I think you got in over your head with everyone throwing money at you....
It doesn't excuse to take the money and keep it.

Ryan from ECO Exterior took $10,000 from me as a deposit and was never seen again. Empty promises since. DO NOT HIRE!!!!

Our rating of Ryan of Eco Exterior is minus 15,820. THAT IS THE AMOUNT OF DEPOSIT HE HAS NOT RETURNED TO MY 94 year OLD FATHER AND MYSELF.
He has had our money since mid August and given one excuse after another for the last 3.5 months as to why he hasn’t started the $31,640 steel roof he was going to do for us. Sadly my dad and I gave him 50% up front in good faith.
Now since we asked him to give us our deposit back since he is in breach of his contract he has returned no texts, emails or phone calls.
IF YOU VALUE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY, DO NOT HIRE RYAN OF ECO EXTERIOR.

Ryan took the money and ran. Once deposit was paid, never came back, never brought materials, and is now, from what we hear around the grapevine, in the South of France. DO NOT USE.

We hired Eco Exterior to do a major renovation on our home this Fall including all new vinyl siding, and soffits, facia, eavestrough + downspouts. We have a fairly big and unique house from the 70s with tons of weird angles and not-so-straight walls (basically origami), plus we removed the original wood siding as it wasn’t in great shape - so this was a HUGE project. Ryan and his crew have an incredible attention to detail, cheerfully problem-solving every little quirk we found in our house along the way. Our project was a bit delayed to start, but seeing how much he cares and finesses every detail (like moving the entire eavestrough over 2 inches because it wasn’t centred), these guys are perfectionists and TOTALLY worth the wait. We’re relatively new homeowners, so honestly the whole project was a bit overwhelming at first, but Ryan was great at communication / explaining the different options at each step to make sure we were comfortable before making any decisions. Ryan is a true expert - you can see the craftsmanship especially in the custom aluminum and wood work he did to picture-frame the edges of the walls and around each window (kind of his signature I’ve seen him do on other projects as well when we were researching). We vetted a LOT of siding companies before settling on Eco Exterior, based purely on his obvious expertise when we talked to him, and the fact that he had a firm position on the proper way to do things. Other companies didn’t just seem to care, and were happy to do whatever we wanted as long as we would pay. I really can’t say enough good things about the whole experience. Even before we started, he let us come out to some of the job sites he was working on at the time (after checking with the owners), where they happened to be using some of the same colours we were considering, just so we could have a better sense for what the final product would look like (it’s really hard to tell just by looking at samples). All I can say is if you want beautiful siding, with someone who will take his time and make sure it’s done right, hire Eco Exterior. Thanks again so much Ryan and team - we absolutely love the final result, all the walls look so square and straight now - honestly it’s BEAUTIFUL. …and we can tell our neighbours are jealous LOL!

Our story matched exactly the same as the reviewer who is pursuing legal action. Ryan is very friendly and available when he is trying to get your business or asking for his money, but NEVER returns calls, text or emails after he has your business. Didn't show up on the date he committed to and expected him. Then, his crew will show up out of the blue unexpectedly, taking you completely off guard. They will work a day or two and then go missing in action. You will never get a call back to confirm when we will see them back. In the rare case he finally does respond (after many attempts), we got the EXACT same excuses that other reviewers have stated. The similarities in excuses are quite laughable. Always seems like he receives 'damaged' material as an excuse not to come or for not showing up. He told us the job will get completed in 1-2 days (we had 2 phases to the job) but took them weeks to just complete the first phase (and that didn't even count the days where they just didn't show up). The first phase was completed this summer, and we are at the end of November and nothing but crickets from him for the next phase. Our house looks very incomplete. You can easily get friends to write you good reviews, so PLEASE use these poor reviews as the truth of what you will experience if you use this company. P.S. For those of you who may have already used him, look at your invoice and compare the warranty on your quote vs your invoice. Our quote stated 10 year warranty and was shocked to see the invoice was reduced to 5 years. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT use this company!

Ryan took a very large deposit to replace our siding, soffits and windows, 6 months ago, and we NEVER saw him again. He did not do any work, he did not deliver any materials and he refused to give our deposit back and won’t return our messages. STAY AWAY FROM ECO EXTERIOR/RYAN.

In May Ryan took $6,900 for deposit and supplies. He later showed up at spouses work and asked for an additional $2,500. Weeks later Ryan blamed Hardie board for shipping the wrong material. We had to get the job done so we reluctantly agreed to the new material. (In hindsight we question if the boards were extra material he already had from another job as the boards were all in rough shape and there was NOT enough to finish half of our entire job.)

We were promised multiple start dates, weeks and months and countless excuses later we had no other option than to wait out Ryan’s excuses as he already had our money and would not return it when asked.

The excuses Ryan made were so beyond naive and odd that I will not repeat them here.

After months of not showing, his crew showed up over a few days struggling to make any progress. He actually fired them on site. Ryan guaranteed he would be here the next day to get the work done. He did not.

A week later an older man was unloading a truck with an additional small amount of Hardie Board (still NOT enough to finish house). When asked the man said he was Ryan’s Father. He said Ryan was to be there soon, which he was, but for only a quick second. When I turned my back for a quick moment they all disappeared.

Again Ryan avoided all contact until one day he called making a verbal agreement to return our money, but that he didn’t have all of it and would have to make payments weekly. Which he never did!

We documented interaction in detail and are pursuing legal action against Eco Exterior and will hold Ryan accountable.

I saw their truck working on the next street so I got in touch. Ryan showed up and talked all the good talk about work, his team, family and kids. As my wife and I had twin babies not long ago and we needed to get our roofing done, as well as exterior siding, we decided to hire him swiftly for work promised to start in a week or so. In the meantime, I sent him deposit of $8721. It’s been close to 2 months since we first got in touch with Eco Exterior and Ryan.

He never showed up and he’s been unresponsive to any of our communications. I think they call it ghosting. I’m gonna have to pursue legal actions if he doesn’t respond to this review either.

This is the last thing we needed. On top of sleepless nights with the babies and out for $8721.

Ryan, please return our money

Eco Exterior, Toronto… Definitely DO NOT hire! He talked a good talk to start my job quickly, got my deposit to do my eaves and window replacements, then came up with every excuse in the book not to show up. He came once in the last 10 weeks to clean and replace my eaves. Spent 10 minutes ‘cleaning’ my front eaves (see pic) then disappeared. Still no response. I definitely wouldn’t want him doing my window replacements!
