I hired Daryl to give me a quote for a basement reno and mantle for my fireplace. I started with the fireplace. The communication was great to start and they found a mantle to install. From there the service was less then expected. To start with while entering my home they banged into the livingroom wall with the mantle and took a peice out of the drywall.
I was very forgiving about this... Then Daryl said they could cut the mantle to the appropriate size upon install. When the subcontracters came to install it they would not cut it further stating too much work. I agree to mount as is. The mounting was okay until they put grey bathroom caulking between the mantled and stone to cover the gap. The caulking looked awful. It was shiny and not at all appropiate for the mantle space. I immediately sent a photo to Daryl and he agreed it was awful and he would come to remove and repair. See pic of text. I then heard nothing from him. I gave it some time and then messaged him again and again as well as several calls. He will not answer or return any messges or calls. Extremely dissapointed in the lack of attention to detail or customer service. Would NOT recommend this complany. It seems like they want to take the jobs and the money but will not complete. Glad I didn't contract them for a basement reno. Additonally, the text shown below was sent on Feb 7th, 2022, I have not heard or have been able to contact him since then. He appears like he is trustworthy, however, very dissapointed with his lack of response.

We hired Daryl to renovate our kitchen, redo flooring in 4 rooms and do a built in shelf in the bathroom. It started very well, he was attentive and responsive and we felt confident in the reno. He was patient when we added additional electrical work and demo. There were time delays (due to COVID) but understood the reno to take approx 3 weeks.

From the beginning, we had concerns with the sub-contractors attention to detail. The flooring and transition strips had to be redone and fixed numerous times, and to this day there are still gaps in the floorboards in 4 places and the transition strips are loose.

There were other concerns with attention to detail:
1. Some of the quarter round was crooked and had to be redone
2. One of the new shelves in the bathroom is not fully stained and one is longer than all the others
3. The dishwasher was never hooked up
4. There is a gap between the new floor and the old floor in the bathroom that we were left to solution
5. One of the kitchen backsplash tiles is already cracked, and some of the grout has holes and is cracking

In addition, there was a lack of understanding on our asks:
1. We asked for a built in microwave, and we were given a simple shelf. I was given the wrong measurements and had to return the microwave I originally purchased.
2. We asked for a built in rack for our baking supplies. It never came and when he went to order it, it turned out to be plastic and very cheap looking.
3. We asked that the kitchen pantry have pull out shelves. 4/7 shelves are pull out.

Additional delays:
1. There was a mix-up with the cabinet ordered and had to wait 2+ weeks for the correct one
2. A cabinet slow close never came and a cupboard shelf arrived week of Feb 14.
3. Reno started Oct 18. Floors were still being fixed Dec 22.

We paid in full in December, even though we were still waiting for a cupboard shelf and slow close, and we messaged February 11 on the two outstanding items as well as ongoing concerns we still have with our flooring, and there has been no response (it is now March). The cupboard shelf arrived from the kitchen manufacturer, and she was the one that advised the slow close is not coming.
We now have to bring another contractor to come in to look at the floor and transition strips and install the dishwasher. For the amount of money we paid, we definitely expected more. Based on the lack of attention to detail and the lack of communication now that we have paid, we would not recommend.

Daryl has integrity, is fair, and knows what he’s doing. We have a heritage home and needed to have the chimneys replaced, a significant amount of the Brick facade replaced, masonry repointing, new wood storm windows made, and custom-matched 12” baseboards created. Daryl has the right experts to work with him on each project. The Mason’s were terrific and found reclaimed brick that was an extremely close match. We are really happy with the work, and with the professionalism and respectfulness of the crews. I would highly recommend this company, and will not hesitate to use them again.

Daryl and his crew were quick on scene to repair structural damage to our home, replacing the front and back rim joists, sill plates and adding sister joists to the floor joists, which if left unaddressed would have caused shifting and further damage.
I appreciate that Daryl saw the magnitude and urgency of our problem and had the crew onsite the following week.
The worksite was very clean, and the crew was very easy to communicate with, completing this laborious job very quickly and with a great attitude.

I speak very highly of Northern Restoration - they are fast, fair and friendly, stick to their word and most importantly, are transparent about the entire process.
