Ace Fence

Devon and crew did a great job constructing a quality fence and two gates. They were professional and courteous and also very willing to engage and answer any questions. Job was completed in a timely fashion and they did a great job of clean up and spreading excess dirt around. While very satisfied, a couple of suggestions for improvement. One would be more proactive communication regarding when the job might be started rather than the customer having to initiate. Secondly, we were advised the gate hardware did not include a handle for the street side of the gates. I purchased two handles for $8 each and installed in 5 minutes. For the cost and effort required, I would suggest that were this completed by the contractor, it would very positively complement an already great experience.

We are very happy with our new fence! I give 4 stars due to some minor issues. Communication was a problem, we weren't prepared for the crew to arrive and start, we expected them later in the week. They also advised lumber would be delivered in the morning but the delivery came at 9pm instead (better than 5am but again, we were not ready or expecting a delivery).
Demolition and clean up were great - we asked for extra care in clean up due to pets and kids and concern about sharp staples and screws laying around. The crew did great!
Zed advised they would hand dig the posts to minimize damage to the yard and gardens. Unfortunately they still piled dirt on top of the gardens and destroyed them anyway when raking it away. They also claimed there was no rose bush when they installed the posts, however I had four rose bushes and now have only three. If it needed to move, a knock on the door could have had that rose replanted safely. Gardens aside, the work looks great. We had issue with an outside (public) corner being left unfinished, and like other reviews state, the crew thought it looked fine to them. Zed responded to all my concerns, and scheduled a meeting with his crew lead to review the corner. Deavon explained the reasoning (gas line, totally acceptable!) and he then came up with a solution that really finished off the corner and shows better workmanship. We were missing a gate handle as well, they resolved it, installed upside down but we will live with it. Im sure it was an accident.

There's always tension between contractors and homeowners but Zed, Deavon and team were patient and
helpful and heard me out. That's appreciated during these stressful and expensive updates.

We were truly disappointed with the poor quality work and even more disappointed with Zed's response to our concerns. From the time the rear fence was installed, the fence was leaning, not straight and had poor quality finishes. To start, they reduced our property line by over a foot because they were lazy to remove old cement from previous posts or cut steel bolts adhered to the retaining wall. We paid half upfront in good faith only to then wait four months for them to finally do a shoddy job of installing the entire fence in less than half a day. In the first photo, the top of the fence doesn't line up at the corner. In the second photo, none of the boards were put on straight and if you look closely this is common all along the fence. The third photo shows how they finished the end covering an old retaining wall. (This was their second attempt on this section and they truly thought it was a satisfactory finish, unbelievable! Zed said, and I quote, "You will never get a contractor in Hamilton to do a better job.") The fourth and fifth photos show the fence leaning and everything but straight. Zed's excuse for this is that the retaining wall was falling over...clearly in the Six photo the retaining wall at the rear of the fence is as straight as a die and constructed extrememly well. Even after we had an Engineer inspect it and say it was improperly installed, Zed (who I believe is the owner), would not repair it. We asked Zed to fix and straighten the fence but he was adamant that he had followed code and had installed the fence properly and to my specifications. Subsequently, we hired another contractor who laughed at the poor quality and did an exceptional job of fixing all the poor workmanship at an additional expense to us. All the photos speak volumes about the incompetence and poor workmanship from Ace Fencing. But this review also clarifies that the company is claiming that their work is the best in Hamilton, providing the best possible work that could have been done under the circumstances. You don't need a construction background to understand that this company is truly taking advantage of the marketplace that is desperately in need of service. I have worked with thousands of contractors in both Canada and the USA and by far Ace Fencing led by Zed is the most incompetent I have run into yet. It is difficult to get good contractors these days but stay far away from Ace Fencing as they are filling a need by providing a service that they absolutely do not have the skills or workmanship to deliver. Clearly the photos say it all, the last three photos just show again the poor quality construction where they have cracked several boards with hap-hazard board fastening!

Zed and his team did a wonderful job installing our new fence. They worked hard and the workmanship is fantastic. Also, Zed's quote was incredibly fair and transparent. In the end, the cost was as quoted. Can't recommend Ace Fence enough.

Ace Fence did an amazing job on our fence! We needed two sides including a gate of our fence done to match one side that was already done. We had a few companies quote and the first thing I noticed with Ace Fence is they are very transparent with their quote so you know exactly the materials and labour components, their cost was also very competitve and he helped me with options to reduce the cost a bit when the price of the fence on the side that was done was a bit much to match exactly due to it having double the wood materials. Once I gave them all the contacts Zed helped by discussing the project with them and providing their quotes separately. Zed and the team were great to work with and were very responsive to all of my emails. They were very efficient and professional, completing our fence in a few days. The neighbours were also very pleased with the look and how the work was completed. Everything was cleaned up and was to quote when they were complete. I can finally enjoy my backyard with privacy since the old one was falling! I definitely would recommend Ace Fence to anyone needing a fence.

Zed and his co worker did an amazing job on our fence. Everything was done exactly how they said it would be and there were no suprise costs. The finished job looks amazing we are so happy with everything. Zed is a really nice person to deal with he answered all questions along the way and made sure we were 100% satisfied at the end. Also worth mentioning is our crazy neighbor yelled at Zed at one point during the job but Zed was completely professional and remained calm the whole time and did his best to explain everything he was doing to the guy. We will recommend Ace fence to everyone and look forward to more fence projects with them in the future.
