BEWARE!

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE SENDING A CASH DEPOSIT TO MARCUS OR KAZA REFINISHING.

My experience with Marcus and Kaza Refinishing:

I filled out the Product Description form on the website and attached a handful of photos. Marcus called me almost immediately and said he could give me a discounted price if I took a project date in July. His estimate was well below his competitors, which in hindsight should have set off some alarms.

Before I sent him the 25% deposit, Marcus was friendly, responsive, eager to talk about his process, and professional. According to multiple online reviews, this is common.

On April 29 I e-transferred Kaza Refinishing $1160.09 because that was the 25% required as indicated by Kaza Invoice #00052659 (Before Marcus responds that Im not a customer or found in his system!).

Thats when everything changed.

No email, text, or phone call to indicate receipt of funds. No invoice provided. At which point I got a little spooked and started calling. No answer. I sent an email requesting a receipt. No response. Finally I got Marcus on the phone and he said he would forward an invoice. He eventually emailed an image of the Kaza logo and a dollar amount, but not an official receipt or invoice.

The job was supposed to start on July 19, 2024. In May, I emailed and asked for confirmation. No response. I emailed again. No response. Eventually Marcus called me and said that he prefers the phone to email. I wonder why. I asked for written confirmation and he became agitated and confrontational.

I could document/post every single rambling, dishonest exchange that I had with Marcus over the last four months (I still have all the emails, text messages, voicemails, voice memos, phone records, etc.), but the bottom line is this:

Marcus and Kaza Refinishing are profoundly unreliable, unprofessional, and unethical.

Marcus says he will get back to you, and he doesn't. Marcus says the job will start at this date, and it doesn't (broken part, sick leave, employee quitting, etc. The stories repeat throughout multiple taken-advantage-of customer reviews). Marcus says he will email you when he gets to the office, and he doesn't. Marcus says he will send you a ridiculous 30% partial refund of your deposit (Guaranteed. Definitely. I promise. Just need a few days to take care of you.), and he doesn't.

Marcus consistently and repeatedly does not do what he says he will.

When he called on July 16 to say the job would not start on time he indicated it would only be delayed by a couple weeks. Those weeks went by and I never heard from him. When I reached out he said he would get back to me on Monday. Guess what happened on Monday? Or the entire next week, for that matter? Radio silence.

Marcus and Kaza Refinishing absolutely cannot be trusted or relied on. Marcus and Kaza Refinishing will take your deposit and then treat you like a pest for expecting basic customer service, follow through, or professionalism.

When I finally got Marcus on the phone, weeks after hed repeatedly promised to get back to me, he ranted about all his customers treating him badly, expecting him to be a punching bag, being unreasonable, etc. He even used the names of some of his other disgruntled customers who, apparently, were also deeply unhappy with his work or communication.

DONT MAKE THE SAME EXPENSIVE MISTAKE I DID.

In my experience: Marcus will take your deposit and then ignore you and then when you finally cant take it anymore and request a refund, he wont provide it, despite the fact that he has done absolutely nothing to earn it.

I strongly urge you to look elsewhere.

The worst contractor experience Ive ever had in my life. A total waste of money, time, and energy.

Read the public complaints online.

Also, organize the Google Reviews from lowest to highest and notice how all the negative reviews say the same thing and make Marcuss pattern of behaviour crystal clear.

Do yourself a favour and do the research I wish I had done before sending Kaza Refinishing any money.

UPDATE: A full refund was provided on September 14th, 2024.
