We went in to look at some new appliances for our new house, which has yet to be built. We informed the lady helping us that our home will not be built until at least May. She mentioned that if we like what we see, we can take advantage of the sale they have on now, and they'll deliver our new appliances when the house is in fact built. Not expecting to actually purchase our appliances yet, we looked at what they had, and to our surprise, if we bought during this particular sale, we would save nearly $1000. We now have purchased our new Washer, Dryer and gas stove. When can call closer to the date our house will close and setup a delivery time. One less thing to worry about.

We went into EHR with the intention of looking at new televisions to replace our old one. Two hours later, we were leaving the store with a new 42" plasma television complete with matching stand. The staff there are very knowledgeable and certainly not pushy. Their prices are competitive and our salesmen even gave us a card with his cell phone number on it. He told us to give him a call if we have any issues hooking it up when we got home.

I brought my computer into this company to get a virus cleaned off of my new laptop. I was told that whether or not I decide to get the virus cleaned, there would be a $70 charge. I was told that a virus cleaning typically takes about two hours, but I would be called if it was going to be more. The service took about two days (brought in Wednesday afternoon, pickup up Friday afternoon) - The virus was cleaned, but ended up costing me two-and-a-half hours of labour. I can't complain about the service, they were friendly enough but are definitely on the pricey side.

We were looking to purchase our first home. After looking at our options we decided to buy new. This was around February 2010. We were told of an upcoming release of new townhomes available for occupancy in September 2010, but we would have to wait two weeks for them to be released. After the wait, we went in to see what was available, only to discover they are available for occupancy in November 2010. No big deal, only two more months. We signed the agreement with the November closing date and went on our merry way. We then receive a registered letter in August stating that the closing has now been delayed until March 2011. Around rolls the end of September and our builder then informs us that there is a further delay, due to permit issues, and occupancy is now May 2011. This is now a full 8 months from our what we were originally told. I really hope the house we do finally get is worth the wait. Would we buy new again? I'm not sure, would we buy from Empire again? This house had better be beyond our expectations for that to happen.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Be honest with their customers and be very forthcoming about time frames.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Negotiate with the builder's sales agents about clauses you can add to your sales agreement. We found out after the fact that we could have added clauses to be able to walk away after the initial delay. If we had our way, we would already be in our new house.
