I was experiencing major problems with my Lochinvar Knight Heater. This is a very new, expensive, complicated hybrid electronic heating and hot water combo. I had already called two other ("cheaper") repairmen, one of which was certified by Lochinvar. Neither of their repairs lasted more than three months. Finally, I called Belyea Bros, who appeared to be the best option in my neighborhood. They were professional - someone answered the phone right away and made an appointment, and the technician made it here on time!! The guy they sent clearly knew the unit well, and quickly diagnosed that the motherboard had to be replaced. He made minor adjustments so that we would have heat and hot water while we waited for the part to come in. I was so impressed with his level of service and expertise, I arranged for him to service our Air Conditioning units on his next visit, while he was installing the heater's motherboard! Again, they weren't the cheapest option to begin with, but if I had only called Belyea Bros to begin with, we would have saved money, not having to get it repaired multiple times. I was so happy, I set up an annual service contract with them. If you're one of those who would rather pay someone knowledgeable to get the job done properly, these are the guys to call!

I've dealt with many contractors in the past couple of years since buying my first home, and Mike at Thermal Techs is the nicest, most attentive, most professional contractor I've had the pleasure of dealing with. He really knew how to deal with my complicated, high-tech Lochinvar Knight boiler system, which few others have been familiar with. He does not charge for simple adjustments or small repairs, like wires not being attached correctly. He made sure to show me exactly what he was going to do before he did it, and that I understood any costs that may arise from the decisions that we made. The part we ordered took longer than we both had expected, so he installed my new thermostat for me, free-of-charge. He was very reasonable in his pricing - others have charged me 2-hour minimums to work on this unit, but Mike only charged me for what had to be done! It was SO refreshing to have a contractor who answers his phone, and returns e-mails within a day. I look forward to having a long relationship with Mike and Thermal Techs, as I intend to have him come once a year for maintenance from now on!

Since buying our first home last August, I've had many experiences with home improvement contractors. So far, the best experience I've had BY FAR was with Tony and his team at Ambia Windows and Doors. We had our custom-size sliding door and frame replaced, an old window with an outdated air conditioner removed and replaced, a storm window installed over a stained glass panel, our bathroom window replaced, and a missing screen for another window installed. From the moment I began working with Tony, I was satisfied. He made me feel like a customer! He was friendly and professional, always showed up on time, and returned my calls and emails immediately. He came for the estimate ready with ideas and literature. He helped me choose the best options within my price range. Here's the most amazing part: his estimate was guaranteed. We've already dealt with a few contractors who came up with various new expenses along the way, but Tony was able to confidently tell me exactly how much it would cost. I knew going in that he was a real professional, and that it wouldn't necessarily be the cheapest, but "you get what you pay for". I found his estimate to be VERY reasonable - and my feelings on this were strengthened when I saw the quality of the work. The quality of everything that was installed surpassed what had been promised. We got free upgrades on much of the hardware that was installed without asking! The work was done quickly and efficiently by Tony's friendly, professional team. They did all of the work in one day and left no mess for me to clean up - they even disposed of the old air conditioner for me. I can not recommend Tony and Ambia Windows and Doors enough. I've used the word "professional" quite often in this review because that's how I feel - like we really got the best service from a real pro. We intend on using him in the future, when we replace our front door.

I had just ordered a new Delta In2ition shower head online. It is a combination rain shower with a detachable center, which makes it a bit tricky to install. As I had spent quite a bit on this shower head, and I wanted to have it installed properly, so I looked on HomeStars for a good, inexpensive plumber. All of the reviews I read for Valentin from Strong Plumbing Co described exactly what I was looking for - someone who calls you back right away, gives you a short time window, communicates frequently, and arrives on time. On top of that, his rates seemed to be very reasonable, and the reviews of the work itself were nothing but complimentary. I called Valentin at 9am, and he gave me a window of 12-2 on the same day to give me an estimate. He called at 12:30 to let me know he was on his way, and arrived by 1. When he arrived he put covers over his work boots and came upstairs to the bathroom. He took a look at everything, and told me that he could do the job for his minimum rate ($120). I thought that was very reasonable, and he started to work immediately. It was done in about 30-45 minutes, and he called me up to inspect his work. He showed me that the detachable shower head's handle was defective, as it was making a squeaky noise, and then showed me how to get a replacement through Delta's warranty, and he also showed me how to switch out the shower head for a new one when the replacement arrives (without using any tools). Other than the manufacturer's slight defect, the job was done perfectly. The shower works very well, and Valentin left the bathroom just as he found it. I put his card up on the fridge, and I know I will be calling him back if we have any future plumbing issues.
