service call on leaking washer

Steve came to look at my leaky maytag washer and told me it was not worth repairing and that the repair job would cost $600. my best option was to purchase a new washer at a retailer of his recommendation. when i asked that he fix the washer, he was unbelievably arrogant: he would gladly take my money and see me in 3 months, at which time he would say "i told you so". i found a real repairman who fixed my washer for $200 in less than an hour and guaranteed his work for 6 months.

Approximate cost of services:
$135.00

Company Response

First of all thank-you to everyone who takes the time to write a review, good or bad.

Ouch, bad reviews hurt and "0" is the worst.

I hope my customers don't consider me "arrogant". Opinionated, strong willed, persistent, I've heard those, and yes when I tell you "it's not worth repair" I'm trying to stop you from wasting your money.

I recommend a few different independent dealers, I don't make any kickbacks when you buy a new machine. These are smaller companies that will do some of the more challenging deliveries that the big box stores walk away from.

I'm a one man operation, when you call, I'm the person who calls you back. My specialty is telling you what to expect before I even see your machine in person. I ask lots of questions, explain everything and you know my fee up front. There are no surprises.

It's frustrating when you are honest with someone, and they refuse to take your advise. I relented, against my better judgement, and agreed to do this major repair on what I felt was a lost cause. I warned the customer as best I could that there could be more expenses to come due to the advanced age and poor condition of the machine.

I was never called back, the repair that was done by another company was a "band aid fix" that left most of the badly worn parts in the machine. Putting $200 into this machine was like throwing the money away. If this was a car repair it would be unfit for the road, as a clothes washer it's good that it's in the basement close to the floor drain.

I'll always do my best for my customers, I'm honest and I hate to see people waste their hard earned money on repairs that won't last.
