replace piping for radiant heating
New furnace and central air conditioning
Here is my response to this person's review. I've included her comments and my response to them below.
We had a new furnace installed just over a year ago and were told after a cleaning in January that a major part was faulty and needed to be repaired. They said it was still okay but should be done as soon as possible and the work would cost $600.00. When we contacted the company because we felt this was a large amount to pay after 1 year that the furnace was installed they agreed to reduce the cost by $150.00. An employee from Enbridge came to our location on Feb 21 and advised us that it was extremely important that the repair be done immediately as it was extremely dangerous and the funance could of blown up.
The boiler was actually installed over 2 years ago. Your warranty on this boiler expired over 1 year ago. The quote provided to you was not $600.00 but rather $450.00. We advised you that the repairs should be done as soon as possible and we spoke to Nadia a number of times to try and resolve this issue. I even offered a $50.00 discount on the repairs for the expansion tank.
We subsequently called dupont and they came to fix the problem and charged us $850.00. This was absolutely absurd. Never mind the money they put our employees and tenants in danger.
There was never any danger of anything blowing up. The information that the Enbridge technician gave you was incorrect. If someone from Enbridge advised you on February 21 that there was a dangerous situation there then why did you wait until February 29 in the late afternoon to call us for repairs? We first advised you of problems with your system on January 11 which was almost 2 months ago.
The parts that were replaced were not part of your boiler installation. These are external controls and if you check your contract with us it shows that those items were not changed as part of the scope of work that was quoted to you. When we came out to provide you with a quote for replacing the boiler, these items were excluded at your request to keep the cost as low as possible.
When I approached them about the cost they could only say that these things happen and some other pieces were required.
When you called this morning you didn’t allow the person to speak and explain to you that these items were original to your boiler piping and not replaced during the installation of the new boiler. Again, when we came out to provide you with a quote for replacing the boiler, these items were excluded at your request to keep the cost as low as possible.
We used them because we like to support local businesses but are so disappointed that the owner of the company did not even try to contact us about this matter and left it up to employees to deal with.
The only request you made to speak to an owner was this morning in an irate phone call and he was not available to speak to you, nor were you willing to let the person on the phone respond to any of your requests and explain to you what I am writing to you now.
Be very careful when dealing with this company and research the products they sell.
We’ve been in business since 1964 and we have been servicing the entire GTA for years. If we treated our customers like this we would not be here today.
When you first called, I went as far as re-arranging my technicians schedule to serve you right away even though we tried to address this matter earlier but received no response. The technician that came out went as far as picking up one of the parts that you needed from one of our suppliers so that your issues would be fixed right away.
Both the Enbridge technician and my maintenance technician misdiagnosed the issue as being the expansion tank. When my senior technician showed up to replace the expansion tank, he re-diagnosed the issue and found it to be a faulty tridicator which was caused by a failed backflow preventor and automatic water feed valve. He fixed your problem right away and got you back up and running. What more would you have expected from the service provided?
Replacement hot water tank boiler combo unit
Due to the complexity of the system and hidden piping in the basement the technicians could not fully locate all the water lines. The old system was over 40 years old and was converted from coal to oil to gas. The piping installed over 40 years does not conform to today's standards and needed to be modified to the new system. Because we did not have access to all the areas of the house, as it is tenanted and the owner was not present, we could not start the system and test it or this system would have been up and running on Tuesday. When we returned the next day after the install to test the system we found that the pipes needed to be re-worked. After a long day of work, our technicians arrived promptly and repaired the system. This is a two day job as the old boiler needed to be cut into pieces to be taken away, new piping configured and installed and installation of the new boiler had to be completed. The person who wrote this comment is a tenant and should have been informed by the owner that it was a two day job and is usually done in the summer months to avoid a lack of heat. If they wish to discuss the matter with me they can call me at 416-532-2859 and my name is Mike.
Repair low flame of Napoleon fireplace
This customer called in this season to have his fireplace serviced for an issue he's had since last year. I sent the first technician over who diagnosed a failed gas valve control. We replaced his valve but he still had issues. When I sent another technician to diagnose the problem, to have a second set of eyes look into it, he found that the fireplace had a weak signal from his powerpile and thermocouple and would not start normally. The technician was there to help him, replaced the parts and solved his fireplace issues that he had and noted that the flame adjustment was better. Having nothing to compare the flame to, the technician questioned this customer on how high the flame should be. This customer kicked the technician out of his home, slammed the door at him and did not pay his bill for the repairs. This customer was also promised to be charged only for parts and not for any labour involved in repairing his fireplace. After this incident, I spoke to the customer and advised him that abusing technicians is not tolerated by our company. I informed him that the technician who was at his property would not come back due to the incident that took place. Asking the customer what he wanted me to do to help him, he went silent on the phone and threatened legal action. Some people just can’t be satisfied no matter how hard you try. No one was ever disrespectful or showed any malice towards him. I have no idea where this outburst came from.
FACTS:
1. His fireplace was actually installed in December of 2003 not 2006.
2. He has never complained about a problem about the fireplace until this year (8 years after the original installation) not 2007 as he has stated.
3. He has never called us or any other company to service his fireplace and perform a routine maintenance which has probably caused most of the issues he's been having.
4. This customer was promised to be charged only for parts at our cost.
There seems to be no appreciation for the work the technicians have done for him and for the work the office put into finding all his replacement parts. We were not out there to make any money from this customer as he was only to pay for parts at our cost. His attitude towards this matter is immature considering what he has been offered and the abuse aimed at the last technician was uncalled for.
Not only is the company at a loss for parts replaced, labour hours to find and replace his parts, this customer seems he got the short end of the stick?!?
I spoke to this customer yesterday about this issue. He had called and booked an appointment to fix his problem. When we arrived on time as scheduled, our technician found that the customer was not home but was let in by his girlfriend. Our technician described the problem to her and was given the authorization to repair the furnace by her. We had no instruction to call this customer upon diagnosis of his problem and he had left someone else in charge of the situation. Our technicians do not repair equipment without proper authorization as that would be foolish. The price for repairs is a reasonable price which covers the service call, parts and labour. We have been servicing the GTA for over 40 years and if we treated all our customers like described above we would be out of business. The only thing we are at fault for is providing prompt and professional service. Where’s the justice.

*** In response to the last comment, when you leave someone else in charge of the situation things like this happen. Why wouldn't he instruct his girlfriend to call him when the technician was there? Why did she authorize the repair without calling him? We don't charge by the minute for labour but rather by the hour. Why was the bill so hard to believe?
