After buying a very old house with a "sealed off" fireplace we wanted to see what would be involved in reactivating it. After opening up the "seal" Chris found what was perhaps several years of squirrels' nests accumulated and much debris inside the chimney.

Everything was cleaned and removed and much to my surprise the chimney was serviceable and ready for fire. I appreciate the honest advice Chris gave with regard to whether I would need a liner put in and what condition my chimney stack is in. He easily saved me a fair sum of money by simply being honest and not installing things I don't necessarily need.

Everything was cleaned up after, no mess was left behind. Very professional, and will definitely do business again on future cleanings and other masonry projects in the future.

My chimney damper was out of place and possibly never cleaned by previous owners . I watched Chris cleaning our wood chimney with care and giving us many advices as he worked , the damper was put back in place and he made sure i see and learn how to open and close.Great and clean job.

Metro Chimney' Chris Bowes has been servicing our chimney now for over 10 years. About 6 years ago, a mania swept over the city and that industry pushing liners on customers. Chris always inspects the chimney flue and walls during and after every cleaning. Ours was built around 1917 and showed no weaknesses or strains and Chris recommended yearly cleaning was good enough. No liner needed. These guys are honest and reliable, although I wish they would occasionally break out into a song and dance a la Mary Poppins...alas, we'll just have to watch the movie again.

Our fireplace had been unused for some time, but had been used by
the previous owners. We decided to have the fireplace and chimney cleaned and inspected before we tried to use it.

After the cleaning the chimney, Chris informed us we could use it safely but advised that the chimney stack could do with some repairs. There was no pressure from him at all to do the repairs. These ended up being bigger than anticipated, but we were impressed by the work, especially once we had seen the before and after photos.

We were given helpful tips for the care, maintenance and use of the fireplace, which we appreciated as a first time fireplace users.

Chris was thorough, knowledgeable, friendly and professional during his two visits and was honest with what was needed, including costs.

Chris is one the best chimney guys I have met in my history of four houses. He has cleaned my wood burning fireplace in my current home in Riverdale for 4 years. This year upon checking the outside of my chimney he noticed that it was in need of repair. He gave me good advice on what to do and got the work done in a timely and very efficient manner and for a reasonable cost.
He also repaired my 89 year old father's chimney yesterday in an old row house and dealt with him in a very respectful manner which I appreciated very much. And Chris has another fan now!

Chris showed-up on time and always kept me updated on the work. His price quote was very good as other companies where adding a huge cost to the project for using scaffolding. While doing the work Chris also found a hole in the flashing of one of my skylights and repaired it at no cost.

Metro Chimney cleaned my fireplace/chimney in winter 2012 and tuck pointed my chimney stack in spring 2013. They also tuck pointed an area of my foundation that was causing a leak into the basement - Chris found a hole and sealed it and despite 2 big storms this week - no water in the basement for the first time in two years.
