Replace bathtub taps

We recently had the misfortunate of using Waterworks. We had booked them to change the bath taps in our bathroom and could only arrange to have them come in the day before the tiles were going to be replaced. As a result, we were rushed and had no choice but to use Waterworks.
However, when the installer arrived what followed was a long sales pitch about how the taps we had bought were no good – a brand name from a big box store. We were also given a lesson on how important it is to have a backflow regulator so the cold water doesn’t cut out when a toilet is flushed while in the shower (something I’ve lived with for 50 years and now, somehow, something we can’t live without).
But, as a I said, we were facing time constraints we ended up paying $1,400 for the new taps. I estimate the time he spent upselling us was more than the time he spent installing the taps.
The next day after checking around, we found out the going rate is about $200 - $400, which means we spent $,1000 more than we should have.
To compound matters, when the tile guy came in the next day, he advised us that the taps were set into the wall too far, a fact we confirmed with another plumber we eventually called in to fix them.
When we asked Waterworks to please reimburse us $1,000, they said absolutely no.
I would never call them in to do work again. They fail on all counts, fair market prices, ability to do the job correctly, and customer service.

Approximate cost of services:
$1,400.00

Company Response

Hi Patricia Hornyak
did you show your new plumber the taps you wanted us to install? You failed to mention they cost around $40 or so.He too would have declined the installation if he was LICENSED.They are not approved by the Ontario Building/Plumbing code nor CSA .They were really the lowest grade product I've ever seen with probably no repair parts or support available. I explained to you why you should buy the Moentrol faucet instead.
They are the highest quality with the best support in the industry. Also they would protect you and US from getting burned by the shower. You also failed to mention that you decided 1 month later to change your bath tub to a larger one, which would require us to come out and reinstall the faucet into a different location,Also I did tell you that the faucet had to be installed deeper in the wall and that we have a kit to install the trim which is a Moen part#137347 at no additional cost.I'm really glad you called upon us and I'm sorry you felt dissapointed. It was a pleasure meetingnyou and doing the installation. Cheers,Michael Yuffa
