Thanks for your review. This job was the first of what was to be a fairly busy day for me and I was optimistic it would be straight forward. The conversation the previous evening conjured up the image of a squirrel that had chewed through some stucco. Not knowing what to expect there was in my mind a certain degree of the unknown which I was prepared for. Upon arrival I was expecting to see a large chewed out hole in the decorative block atop the second story window. To my surprise the area in question appeared normal. My client assured me that there were noises emanating from the location and I unloaded my ladder and promptly raised it towards the decorative block. The ladder was rocky and just as I reached the top a squirrel jumped out of the Styrofoam which was a complete surprise to me. Not visible from the ground it was clearly evident now that this particular squirrel had build itself quite a cozy home. The block was almost completely hollowed out with only a thin veneer left to give it a rectangular shape. The fact that my ladder didn't cave the whole thing in or that it didn't just come crashing down with myself included along for the ride was a miracle. Coming down the ladder my thoughts were that the situation was dire in that yes the squirrel was out but what was stopping it from returning. The squirrel was still on top of the roof looking at us both and awaiting our next move. I could easily have just blocked the small area where it had created access but the squirrel could easily just chew into another section of it at will because it was just so soft. Also, the fact that it was detaching itself from the house and allowing water to compromise the windows beneath it became a real concern for me. The only sensible thing to do therefore was to clad the block in aluminum flashing. Cladding made sense in that the squirrel would be locked out, the block could be attached to the house properly, and everything would be waterproof. So off to the home depot I was. Estimating that I would need to drive 20 minutes, walk into the store 5 minutes, find the material (aluminum, Pl adhesive caulking and matching aerosol spray) 15 minutes, checkout 5 minutes, walk to the truck and load material 10 minutes, return back to house 20 minutes, shake the aerosol can and spray aluminum 10 minutes, cut and shape 10 minutes, go up the ladder and glue the whole block 5 minutes, come back down lift all the aluminum up and screw it into the glue plus attach everything to the house with screws and washers spaced out every foot along a 6 foot span 30 minutes, get down the ladder put away all my tools and ladder 15 minutes get payed and say goodbye and call my next client to say I would be late 10 minutes. That job took two and a half hours. For $ 300 but it looks great, is waterproof and squirrel proof. Nobody in my business would have done what I did. They would have stapled some mesh to the open section for $ 300 and walked away within twenty minutes. That is what it means to go above and beyond. I put a photo on the photos section. Joe

Mouse in the house, but not for long!
This is why I just love my job. The satisfaction of getting the pest issue resolved so that there are permanent results is what its all about. I had to dismantle two deck areas before the hole was located which took hours. The mice cannot get in now they are sealed out which is 95 % of the problem. We just need to deal with the 5 % of what's inside because no others can get in. Some well placed commercial bait in key locations and the road to a pest free home are absolutely within reach. So happy this went well for my clients and I thank you for your business and your review.

Couldn’t have asked for better person to help in crisis.
I thank you for your review. The job was memorable to me and went something like this. First the phone call where we discussed the issue. I could have done the job during the week but find it is better to focus on only one job when it comes to mice. There is a lack of quality when doing many jobs in a day or even by the end of a day. Your brain plays tricks on you and your instincts tend to suffer which makes one overlook important aspects. This is the reason I like to do mice jobs at around 10 am. The perfect hour for me to be alert and ready to hunt down that needle in a hay stack ( did I check this or did I miss that etc...) which can and will lead to a mouse problem. Mice jobs take a lot out of me and often times leave me drained and fulfilled at the same time. My thought process is that I want to try and find and remove the root cause of a pest issue quickly in order to get the proverbial ball rolling towards lasting positive results. Alas, I digress so instead of doing the job during the week I decided to do it on Sunday instead. Arriving at the home in winter gear I conducted an exterior inspection. At first I was convinced it was related to the garage and using my ladder did find one lone dropping in the higher reaches. The dropping was green and this suggested that it likely ate some bromadiolone which is a common rodenticide. Apparently the homeowner had no knowledge as to any rodenticide and this new clue had me perplexed indeed. Finding no bait stations or bait anywhere in the garage how did the dropping get deposited so high up in the garage ? The homeowner came outside and we talked and I decided to look at the entire perimeter. Checking the perimeter even after being focused on the adjoining garage is important because one needs to rule out all possibilities. So we walk into the backyard and I see there is a deck which is 3 feet or so off the ground bordered with pressure treated lattice. Looking under I quickly noticed that there was a large piece of plywood covering a window with a yellow extension cord exiting the top of it. The plywood was covering the window opening and looked secure enough yet my instincts about it left me perplexed and anxious. My client was adamant with me that it was all fine because an electrician had been working there previously and not reported anything out of the ordinary. I told my client "I don't like it" he replied that it was fine. "Well", he said, after me insisting we had to look at it "why don't you look at it from the inside then " "Perfect lets check it out " I replied, because to me I just had to rule this out. Sure, I could have listened to my client and gone home earlier and not been so exhausted, and cold, or muddy but I just didn't like that plywood for some reason. This is the 1 hour point of the job by the way. Most guys are already gone and off to the next job by now. Just the talking and the garage, removing of the boots, gloves, hats, coats and scarves took an hour. Ok so we go downstairs and I see the window which is covered by the plywood and I notice right away that the window is a third smaller than that plywood and the basement is dark because of it so now I've got to get a better look from the outside. We go back out side and put on the boots, gloves ,scarves, hat etc... I get to the deck and realize I need tools to remove the lattice skirt around the bottom. I go to my truck get my tools. Taking off the stripped screws crawling underneath I begin to remove the plywood and find the smaller window is framed into the larger opening and can see exposed insulation and droppings and tunneling going right into the basement exterior wall. This kind of shoddy work is something I've never seen before yet doesn't surprise me in the least. At this point I need more tools so I once again crawl out from under the deck and go back to my truck for my skillsaw ,measuring tape, carpenter square, mallet. extension cord, marker, and 3 inch screws. I used the plywood that was there to frame and close off the large gap and fix up the problem which took much effort because it was dark, cramped, and cold under the deck. The opening was baited first before closure because the mice were going to need some snacks. I cut myself up while I was down there but that's why we have bandages. Then after securing my tools and cleaning myself up I went back into the house and once again took off my boots, gloves, you know the drill by now. I baited the house and just had to see that basement window and it was so marvelous because it was cleared now and the sunlight filled the entire laundry room. The job took over 3 hours to do but I needed it because helping people is what I love, this makes me feel good. Oh I forgot to mention I also had 40 people at my own house which were waiting for me but that's another story. This is why I do these mice jobs on certain days because they require my fullest attention. They really do take a lot outta me all joking aside. Oh by the way the green dropping in the upper part of the garage was from bait that was placed on the inside of the house by another pest control company hired by the previous homeowner. The mice were going in and out and must have ventured into the garage in their travels. Joe.
Crazy the amount of silverfish here. Initially I was convinced the problem stemmed from a flat roof moisture issue. Having seen the basement and its corresponding cardboard boxes I was able to pinpoint the direct cause of this silverfish infestation. I sprayed the home one more time since this review and the silverfish appear to be gone for good now. The chemical used proved to be most effective against this insect pest as it killed them even months afterwards which was profoundly encouraging. I tend towards micro encapsulated insecticides ( even though they are much more expensive ) and so far have received excellent results. Thanks for the review. Joe
Help sort out a raccoon and bird issue
Thank you for your review of my work. I remember it well, and recommended a whole house screening as evidenced by what was going on
on the street. Clearly we were dealing with a prolific gang of raccoons by just looking at the damage to nearby houses. The issue is based on access to the vulnerable areas and once the home is secured the problem moves elsewhere. Every corner and location was systematically shut down to these fury rascals. I've seen determined raccoons gain access to a home over and over again and it's just not worth the time, aggravation or expense.
Many years ago when I was getting started in the business I was called to a home to deal with some nuisance raccoons that had ripped open a roof vent and gained access into this gentlemen's home. Having conducted an inspection and advising him that the roof was both weak and compromiised he subsequently opted to simply ignore the issue. Around two months later I received a call by the same gentleman about the raccoons. Whilst the raccoons were freely living in the attic space this fellow was called upon to attend a funeral in Florida. while he was away appears the gang of raccoons decided to rip open a hole in the upper ceiling and managed to enter his home. For two weeks the raccoons had their own mini vacation in the Cabbage town house. Not one cupboard was left hanging, all the furniture was destroyed, water taps were running and the flood continued to overflow in the sinks and bathtubs unchecked for weeks.
The damage was considerable and found to be well into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The insurance company would not cover any of the damage because the utilities were not turned off and there was no proof that the home was checked by anyone every 2 or three days as per the fine print in the policy. The issue would never have happened had he listened to me and did the work to
deal with them effectively. He ending up solely responsible for over two hundred thousand dollars worth of damage because he was not taking these raccoons seriously. Joe
Short and sweet. I'm happy it all worked out.Joe
