We're absolutely thrilled with the workmanship that Curtis (and Josh) did for the full landscaping of our entire home- the front, sides of the house and backyard. After hearing great reviews about Curtis' work from friends, we reached out to get an estimate for a complete redo of our backyard. Our backyard was in bad shape: lots of weeds, dead trees and old/outdated interlocking. We showed Curtis some pictures of ideas we liked and he worked with us to come up with a unique and beautiful design we absolutely loved! We ended up hiring Curtis for our front yard as well, as we wanted everything on the exterior of our home to be updated to match our new and beautiful backyard design.

Curtis was thorough and extremely knowledgeable, making recommendations to us in every step of the process. He was available for questions, very patient with our many questions, was an excellent communicator, was transparent, honest and an absolute pleasure to work with. We felt included in the process as Curtis always updated us on next steps of the project and even sat with us to pick specific materials based on our design presences before getting started. Curtis and Josh worked on the landscaping of our home for over one month; that speaks to the size of project it was. It was a huge undertaking which required a lot of attention to detail. Curtis' work is meticulous, precise and complete perfection. We have received rave reviews from family, friends and neighbours on Curtis' beautiful work. So much so that a few of our neighbours have contracted him for their own homes as well. His work truly speaks for itself; not one detail is missed. Curtis and his team are highly recommended by us. What a complete upside-down transformation of our backyard space! It turned from the “untamed bushy wild forest” to the “oasis of our dreams” that we will enjoy forever with family and friends!!

As you can see from the Before & After photos, Curtis and Rahim did AMAZING job that included natural limestone steps, armor rocks, over 450+ square feet of Permacon’s Melville 60mm Scandina Grey and Rockland Black, shed base, and new sods.

Our journey with Curtis at Tarcan International Ltd. began with an on-site consultation about the design, materials, process, and costs. A rough sketch along with the costs breakdown were provided after the initial consultation. The cost was reasonable given the scope of the project and we were delighted to hear about the 2-year warranty because other companies that we interviewed only include 1-year of warranty.

The project took about 8 days and Curtis and Rahim always worked with a smile on their face! They were very approachable and welcome any questions that we may have given that this is our first experience with backyard landscaping. They had high work ethic, high attentions to detail, were meticulous, took their time to plan and execute the vision, did not cut any corners, and worked extremely well together. They operated multiple machines in very small spaces and were very careful about surrounding objects (e.g., building, fence, air conditioners).

An unintended impact of the machinery and the materials used was the walkway slabs leading to our backyard, which were shared between us and our neighbours. Because of the weight, all of the walkway slabs cracked in half. When we brought it up with Curtis the following morning, he took responsibility for the unintended consequence and agreed to replace them with the exact walkway slabs in the end of the project. It is not often that we encounter someone that is honest and has integrity in their work. We (and our neighbours) were extremely happy with this news. Above all, Curtis and Rahim did not just replace the walkway slabs, I saw them level the ground first, add aggregates as needed, and then placed the new walkway slabs. They even added polymeric sand in between the slabs to avoid weeds and unwanted vegetations! These actions demonstrated to us that they really cared about their clients and about their workmanship and is willing to go above and beyond our expectations!

All in all, we are grateful for Curtis and Rahim, and for all of the hard work, time and sweat equity to transform the space that we will treasure and cherish for many years to come! We wish you all the best in your future endeavours and may our paths cross again!

Tarcan International was the first company I’d interviewed. After I’d met with two more contractors, I realized there was no reason to search further, and that Tarcan was not only the best candidate, but the perfect one. The price the other two contractors gave me was 5 to 8% less, but the brick type wasn’t as good or nice looking as what Tarcan gave me, so really they probably weren’t even cheaper. But most importantly, when I spoke to Andrew (Tarcan) I could tell he definitely knew what he was talking about and would use the best methods and techniques to ensure a high quality end product. Andrew, his brother Curtis, and other crew members did everything that I asked for and more. Their work ethic and quality of workmanship was absolutely impeccable. My front yard and backyard patio with steps looks amazing, it exceeds all my expectations. I am very happy that I chose Tarcan International and I highly recommend them to anyone.

No words can describe what a wonderful job Andrew and Curtis did for us last summer. They are Master Craftsmen, the kind I thought had vanished. Their work was meticulous, thoughtful and the end result beautiful. And it wll last. NO redoing in a couple of years. And for a pensioner that is mighty important.

One word that should describe the services of Tarcan International (the Clare brothers, Andrew & Curtis; Donovan the foot soldier & Roger the Viking) is PERFECTION.

I'm very thankful to have Tarcan worked on my interlock project. I've found Tarcan on Kijiji.ca and setup an appointment with Andrew on Sunday for an estimate. Tarcan was the lucky 8th contractor I've contacted, and I knew, from the moment I've met Andrew,that this was the contractor I was looking for: Quality over Price. Yes, I was quoted from $5000 to $6000 from the 'other guys', which was somewhat cheaper than Tarcan's quote of $6400. However, I was quite concerned about the 'other guys' work quality. In the end, I hired Tarcan and would not hesitate to hire them again for my summer 2012 landscaping project. I think Tarcan's price was very reasonable because of the time and effort they took working on my interlock area inch by inch and stone by stone. I would welcome Tarcan back anytime if I ever need them for all of my future interlocking and landscaping projects. I'm 100% satisfied with Tarcan, and no, I do not work for Tarcan (ask me for photos if you don't believe me). I highly recommend Tarcan to anyone.

We've been talking about getting a raised patio in our backyard since we moved into our new home 5 years ago. But we always thought it would cost too much and the start-up costs of a new home are high as it is. So we waited!

Then about 2 months back our neighbours a few doors down were getting their rear driveway done. It was a fairly long one from the house all the way to the alley, but a relatively simple project. I drove by daily and saw Curtis and Andrew working away but they weren't really rushing. They were taking their time and cutting small, detailed pieces with care and precision, contouring the land to fit the need keeping drainage in mind. I knew right away that this was the company I wanted.

Tarcan gave me a very reasonable quote a few days later and Curtis and Andrew sat down with us and helped transform our paper design into reality. Once again they took their time cutting small pieces and large ones to fit perfectly. And it was HOT (+35C) but they still kept on working! Even when we had a change, they accommodated it without any trouble and completed the job (including a thorough cleanup of all garbage, dust etc.) with the utmost in professionalism and competence. And they (including their crew) are pretty easy going and friendly guys that take their work seriously and complete it with pride. After all they are Markham local and their repution is paramount to establishing a successful neighbourhood business.

From our project, Curtis and Andrew have picked up 3 more projects within a 500 yard radius. Very, very happy with the job they did and I would recommend them in 2 seconds flat. Have been sitting on the patio every night this week admiring the workmanship. I will continue to display their signage on the front and rear yards as long as they last.

Living in a rear-lane community, the front landscaping of most homes is neglected. Mine was no exception. It was embarrassing. I had already built a deck in the back yard but I had no intention of doing any stone work in the front myself. It was not a DIY that I was willing to tackle.

The front landscaping was a huge investment and focal point so I wanted to make sure that it was professionally done. I’ve never hired a company to do any sort of home renovation before so I relied on recommendations from my neighbours who had work done on their rear-lane driveways. I met with four different companies. Since these companies were recommended by my neighbours, I had the opportunity to see their work in person. I decided to go with TARCAN for a number of reasons. I met with Curtis during the interview process and he was able to take the vision I had in my head and describe back to me in detail what was required to achieve my concept. Each part of the job was broken down into detail as well as price. We had a number of options and decided to go ahead with the following:

- Garden beds / curved style - @ approx. 45 linear ft. in length @ 3 stacks high
- Interlocking from veranda right to the street curb @ approx. 70 sqft
- Steps from the Veranda to the street curb (3 steps)
- Side of house Interlock @ approx. 200 sqft
- Re-sod @ approx. 600 sqft

My neighbour whose backyard connects with mine also hired TARCAN for their backyard project. We all agreed on a start date and Curtis showed up with his crew on time and as promised. The calculated timeline to complete both projects was 7 days. Of course, as with most outdoor projects, Mother Nature usually has her say as well. The first two days were spent prepping as the ground was extremely hard due to the relentless dry weather. We sent the crew home the following two days as I couldn’t imagine them working with the temperature reaching 45+ with the humidity. The weather co-operated the following days and things began to roll. We made some alterations to the design which added about another half days work but Curtis and his crew was very accommodating. My front yard project was completed in 8 days.

I know the big question is price. TARCAN was the third company we interviewed. The previous two provided less expensive quotes but they were also using the more common stones and only two stacks for the garden wall. With all things being equal, I can honestly say that TARCAN was slightly more expensive by approximately $400 but the service and quality really is superior. I don’t mind paying that extra for peace of mind.

Curtis, Andrew, Roger, and Don were extremely respectful, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Their attention to detail is exceptional and their work surpassed my expectations. I could go on and on but it is difficult to describe their work without me sounding like a groupie. I’ll let my photo’s do the talking instead. I found the company on Kijiji. I didn't expect much as I just needed simple patio on my backyard: 400 sq feet and 6 steps. I had telephone estimations from other companies and the estimated price was an issue for me. Curtis came for in-home estimation. He suggested a design and explained stones types. His price was so attractive that I signed the contract at the same day.
3 days of works.... and I have had the completed clean patio which is ready to relax. The biggest surprise for me was the patio look. It looks like high quality million-dollar house patio:
* Elegance flowerbed;
* Smooth rounded patio with a border of different color;
Two of my friends took the company's phone number after they saw my patio.
