Moving

Moving is a very stressful experience, at least it is sometimes. This is not the case with S & Sons moving. I have moved many times over the years, used many different movers, cheap and expensive, quick and slow. I was even a mover myself for a short period of time. I have never, ever had such a good experience as I did with S & Sons moving.

S & Sons was recommended to me by my real estate agent.

Weeks before the move, the owner of the company visited my house and quickly and accurately priced the move, gave me several options and advice on how to have a painless move.

On moving day, the team of S & Sons movers was extremely professional and polite, quick and effective. They did not drag their feet, the did not slow down, but they also did not rush through the job. Every one of my belongings was treated with care and respect. Much as they treated me and my wife throughout the day. We had a large move, almost filling the entire truck, and it was a long, gruelling day, but the entire team worked tirelessly to ensure the move happened as best as it could, and as painless to me as possible. They took the stress out of the day completely.

I have to mention, the truck was packed to perfection. It really was a thing of beauty. I've seen very bad packing jobs, very quick packing jobs and average packing jobs. But a crew leader that cares about his moves knows that packing a truck really is an art, and S and Sons moving understood that. It was like watching a master play Tetris.

I could have gone with cheaper movers, but I would have regretted it. That's not to say they were expensive, it ended up being cheaper than I expected and extremely close to the estimate given, despite issues with traffic, timing and parking.

I would wholeheartedly recommend S & Sons Moving to anyone and everyone looking to move their items from one place to another with care and efficiency. I really felt like I had made new friends by the end of the day.

I would give this review 11 stars if I could. I was blown away. Thanks again S & Sons.

Stress-Free Movings

Thank you so much to S & Sons for their wonderful moving services. We have used them a few times for residential moves and just recently for office move. They are always extremely courteous and friendly. We are really impressed with how fast and efficient they work. They lift the most awkward and heavy items without scratching any of the walls. Their rates are reasonable, and they make every effort to ensure that their customers experience an efficient, stress - free, and successful move. Thank you very much for being there for us especially under very stressful circumstances. In fact, we can easily say that the easiest part of our moves have been the moves themselves. We strongly recommend S & Sons and would definitely use them again.

Moving

These movers are extremely dishonest and take advantage of people’s vulnerability on the day of their move. We had booked S& SONS Moving Company a month in advance. One of the men came to our house advertising their services because they saw our “sold” sign. He glanced over the house, quoting us $160/hr for 4 movers with a minimum of 3 hour booking. We insisted that he look properly at all the rooms and he refused and insisted that would be the price and it would only take 3-4 hours max to move everything.
On the day of the move, they arrived to our house 4.5 hours late after doing another move and complained of being extremely exhausted and wanting to charge us more because of it. They were very slow and rude. We had organized and packed everything in boxes, tied up furniture and bubble wrapped all glass tables, everything was ready to go. Upon their arrival we were told we had too many boxes. The manager said they did not want to work until midnight and were very tired so insisted we need to have him work as well, making it 5 movers and charging us $190 an hour instead of $160. He told my 70 year old father that if he did not agree, they would leave, and he would be stuck doing the whole move my himself. They refused to start any work until we signed their contract and paid them $800 upfront instead of the originally agreed upon price of $640. The contract had the original amount of $640 on it. Amidst all this, they were rude and calling us cheap even after we ordered pizza for them as a courtesy. Their truck broke down for 2.5 hours and the manager wanted to charge us for that time. We told them that was not our problem and that we would not pay for that time. These movers were practically dumping everything into our new house. After completing the move, they refused to leave our property until we gave them an additional $920. This made the total bill $1720 and they originally quoted us $640. Do not book this company, you will regret it. We will spread the word through twitter, Facebook and better business bureau. This should teach them not to mislead people like they keep doing. Unfortunately, we have only just now seen the many complaints online where people are charged 3 times what they were originally quoted. 85% of their online ratings are "would not recommend". On the day of your move, you are in a very vulnerable spot and cannot do much as the new home owners are waiting in your driveway to move in. DO NOT BOOK THIS COMPANY. They will probably write a response to this but looking at the prior comments, you can see we are not the only ones with this terrible experience.

Company Response

At the free in home estimate, provided 2 month ahead following recommendation were made: our company to dismantle and pre-pack clients furniture, to make sure the moving day goes smooth and cost effective. ( It is less money to pay for packing crew instead of truck parked and moving crew to dismantle furniture). Sam, the client was at the quote time and booked the move, with plan to call later and provide the deposit. The quote was: 6 hours of actual moving if we ( our packing team) prepares for the move and all is ready for safe transportation. The minimum charge was $640.00+HST for the 3 hours job - this was not the estimated cost, but only the minimum charge. The client has the copy of the estimate left with him and it is very clearly written. Also, the booking was made for 9am to start. Our company called several times to remind for the deposit payment, but client was postponing that payment. Two day before the move, Sam called our office to ask to start the move later in the day, as his lawyer advised he may not get the key to the new place until 5pm and they do not want to pay our moving crew hours of waiting for the key. We advised the client that there are only two options. First is to keep the booking as initially made at 9am to start and that is the only time we will guarantee our moving crew coming to the job on time, specifically at 9am. The second option is: to re-book the move for 2pm or after to start and accept flexibility to have our crew after moving other client from 9am. The client wanted to think about it up until the day before the move and talk to his lawyer. Our office called the client to advise that as there was no deposit paid for so long time and they are concerned with the payment for the waiting time, we are booking a smaller job from 8am and after completing that job our moving crew will go to move him. At the same time we asked the client hoe prepared he is for the move, as he refused to get pre-packing services and we are concerned with combination of: not being prepared for the move in one hand and starting the job late in the other hand. That was explained to the client clearly that it can lead to many complications: specifically if the new owner of his house comes and he is not moved out yet,- can even go as a legal complications. The client insisted on starting the job in the afternoon.
We were absolutely right in our concerns: the client was not packed, dismantled or prepared for the move as we would recommend for safe and effective move. The job was started at 3:30 pm, we advising the client that hiring the 5th men in the situation will only help and speed up the combination of both packing and loading the truck, instead of only loading pre-packed furniture. Instead of 6 hours estimated moving job, it took 9 hours to both pack, dismantle and load/unload the truck. The 3 hours of pre-packing were estimated for different day and client never accepted it, or did the preparation for the move on his own. Our truck did break down and the time for the repair was not charged to the client, in fact the client got $200.00 discount for the inconvenience. In addition to that, the client did not want to pay for the second portion of the move, trying to "make a deal'. Our company provided a quote of: 3 hours pre-packing and 6 hours of moving. The client hired our company with full acceptance of the proposed hours to complete the job and hourly rates for the packing crew and moving crew. The new owners came to the house and were very upset with our client starting the job late in t the day and delaying their move in. He was very apologetic and specified that he was suppose to listen to our advise.
To conclude: it is very upsetting to read false statements, instead of saying Thank you for the moving crew, that finished the job after midnight because of their mind set to safe money ''on all terms'' even affecting badly many other people. It is totally unreasonable to expect to move a 4 bedroom house, especially not prepared for the move, -for 3 hours?!!!
We would strongly advise other service providers to stay away from this family- totally unreasonable, and ready to take advantage of any situation to save money and get a free ride.
With all respect to the client: We answered and gave the picture of what happened prior and during the moving process. We have and are prepared to post and share to interested parties: pictures of totally unpacked piles of clothing and household belongings, that were in customer's mind ''ready for move'', actual copy of the estimate proposal, showing 6 hours of estimated moving job and 3 hours minimum estimated of pre-packing. We can only recommend very important steps for a stress free and cost effective move, but cannot enforce clients to do that. In this case: the client refused the pre-pack services, changed the booking time the day before the move and accepted the fact that we will not guarantee what time our moving crew will come, as we cannot control how fast or slow the first job will take.

House Move

Do not use this moving company. They are dishonest and should not be trusted with your items. To get your business they arrive at your home, review the size of the move and provide you an estimate that is only one quarter of what they end up charging you. During the move, the owner, was continually yelling at me. He was very rude, sarcastic and unprofessional.

The owner demanded I sign his contract before the move even though the contract stated that I checked the truck after the move and none of my items were left on the truck. I pointed out this clause to the owner and told him that I didn't want to sign the contract until after the move; however, the owner insisted I sign it before he would begin the move. He told me that this is how he did business. It was the morning of my move and I had a short time period to vacate my home. I felt stuck.

During the move, the owner was very rude to me. He was constantly yelling at me and stating that I was incorrectly using his shrink and bubble wrap. He was sarcastic and abusive and made comments about me even though he knew nothing about me.

He charged me several times for rolls of shrink and bubble wrap that I did not use. The owner took back unused rolls at the end of the move - even though I had paid for them. He was charging $50+ a roll. In addition, the owner only had two men available to unload the items in my new home when there should have been four. This cost me a lot of money because they were working by the hour.

At the end of the move, my husband discovered that one of his large steel shelving units was left on the truck. The truck drove off right after the move and didn't wait to allow my husband time to check the truck for content. We brought this problem up with the owner and he told us that he checked and nothing was found in the truck. We were very upset.

I had a treadmill that I needed moved to the third floor and the owner said he could not move it up there. Yesterday, I paid two movers who moved my treadmill up to the third floor.

The owner is incredibly unprofessional and should not be trusted. Moving home is a very stressful situation in itself and dealing with S & Sons Movers makes the experience an absolute nightmare that will take you a lot of time to recover from.

This dispute is handled by BBB at the moment, where all contracts and facts can be seen in support of our reputation and professional job done. An estimate was provided to the clients for 7 hours job, in condition that all will be pre-packed and ready for the move. Clients assured will be packed, and last minute booked our packing crew for 6 hours the day before the move. Even it was not all completed, clients again assured they will be ready for the next day move. Not only they were not ready, but also ''forgot'' to disclose that they have a storage to move. Access to the storage was via bushes, in a poring rain conditions. This all leaded to 3,5 hours extra, that took to complete the move. Also, we were able to bring additional truck, to accommodate the undisclosed content of the storage. Client signed on the contract that initial approximate estimate of 7 hours in not valid any more. Clients also requested an un-packing services the day after the move, which is of course at additional charge, that somehow clients want to include in estimated 7 hours job. We are proud of our team, we were able to help this clients in a very ''unfriendly'' poring rain condition, were able to load everything and did it all in a timely manor. This clients were extremely rude and difficult to work with and we feel ''robed'' from our best intentions, efforts, saving them $400-$600.00 by providing them with boxes, wardrobe boxes and bins for china. Moving within Toronto

We had a very positive experience with S and Sons. They were great pre-move; answering questions and giving us all the information upfront. They showed up on time and were hardworking throughout the entire day. They were also very accommodating; allowing us to make several stops to pick up items from storage, etc. We have recommended them several times to family and friends, who have also shared positive experiences.

Mover

The worst move ever. DON't EVER USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Much like one of the other reviewers these clowns showed up short-handed. They promised four professional movers and showed with the boss who's an moron and a teenager with no experience. They refused to deliver our stuff three times holding it for ransom so that we wouldn't use a credit card that they had originally agreed to....they wanted cash and then more cash. Threatened to dump our stuff on the street. The boxes they used were beaten up old grocery boxes. With our stuff that required at least forty boxes they shoved everything into 23. Anything that hung out was taped together. Several things were broken and no liability. The estimate was $900. Final cost $1900. Oh yeah and these were the laziest bunch of crooks ever. He even charged us an hour to write out the bill at the end of this nightmare. A bunch of crooks. STAY AWAY for your on good.

Company Response

This move (3 bedroom condo) was booked by Dave’s wife last minute, just a few days prior to the move. All details were explained and the contract emailed to verify all terms, including the prepayment of the 3 hrs minimum and the balance payable before unloading. She was asked many questions, including if they will be ready for the move: completely packed, dismantled furniture and if they need our help with it. They hired us to pack the afternoon before the moving day and in the middle of it decided to go to dinner and told our packers they will complete it later on. When our moving crew came next morning, - the packing was still to be done and that prolonged the hours and created an issue with the elevator booked time.
They were offered boxes: either used ones for fee or brand new ones with the fee, - they choose used ones. We offer used (2-3 times) boxes free of charge to help our customers and save them money. Dave and his wife had used professional boxes and nothing as in his description.
The issue started right from the beginning of the job, when Dave refused to prepay the minimum charge as his wife never told him the details of our contract. With very aggressive and abusive attitude he argued and demanded the crew to do the job and then get paid. Our office talked to him several times and we decided to leave the place as we did not want to deal with them. Our crew was there to provide service and not to fight with the customer for money! At this point we knew that they are the type of customers that like to abuse “the bad reputation” of the movers overall and get moved for free. After wife’s call and promise to deal with the foreman and follow the terms of the contract we started the job. We had to refuse their credit card, as they planned to pay and then stop the payment and get it done for free.
This job was extremely unpleasant and nervous, but our crew moved all their possession safe and no damages. It took much longer due to the fact they were not prepared and the difficult accessibility. On the first place there were long hallways and on the second place there were 2 levels with steps to be used and the dollies had to be reloaded twice.
We have answered several nasty and dirty language letters to Dave already with all this details.
If you need to move: PLEASE call movers for free in-home estimate and get all details ahead of time, read all terms in the contract. PACKING is a must, regardless of who is doing it, the movers or the customer. If you don’t like the contract, just don’t hire them instead of manipulating the crew on the moving day to change the terms as they will not.
I would pledge all moving companies to stay away from this family if they ever need to move again. You can’t make them happy no matter how hard your crew works, what equipment you have and it is not worthy to listen nasty abusive and dirty language wile working…
