Roofing project on brand new house. Paid for service. Inspector said no starter strip anywhere on the roof, with many questionable areas. Completely dumbfounded that someone who seemed so helpful, and a really good guy, could do that to my brand new house? He gave me advice on types of shingles to use. He came to the store with me and showed me the differences in brands, and suggested I might like the architectural look, as opposed to the 3-tab.I agreed and was very thankful for his advice. We arranged for him to return to the site, after the proper shingles were delivered, one week later. (I offered to pay his gas-as he lived about 2 hours away...and I did pay for his accommodation when he came back). On several different occasions he asked me to pick up materials as there were "not enough" or "not any" (in his words). If there was no starter strip on site...then why did he not ask me to pick any up in the several conversations that we had? Why would one even start a roofing job without starter material? Is that not similar to pouring foundation with no rebar? YOU JUST DONT DO IT!!! Turns out my suppliers have charged me for starter, and assure me it was delivered...so where are they? As I have found out, starter strip ensures a properly finished, to CODE, job. Without this the shingles will not last, will fly off, will not be waurenteed by the manufacturer, and will leek. This we found out after the first rainfall following installation! We have tried reasoning with him...to which he blames everything on my roofing ignorance and inexperience. Of course I don't know everything about roofing...if I did, then wouldn't I have been up on the damn roof doing the job myself...saving thousands of dollars??!! What a completely ignorant human being he is. I hope this helps take him out of business! Wally with Ladder Jacks Exteriors is not to be trusted!
