Roofing Project

Wally is a disreputable contractor. He signed a contract to do a roofing job, started the job and refused to finish it. I had a roofing inspector observe his work and Wally was going to install his new roofing membrane over the top of old rotten material. He claimed that this was per the manufacturers recommendation. When I asked him to strip off the old roofing material on one section of roof he claimed that this is against the requirements of the product. My roofing inspector said he is not following good roofing practice, Wally claimed that the certified roofing inspector doesn't know what he is talking about.

Don't trust this guy, just run away before he runs away with your money.

Roof

Roofing project on brand new house. Paid for service. Inspector said no starter strip anywhere on the roof, with many questionable areas. Completely dumbfounded that someone who seemed so helpful, and a really good guy, could do that to my brand new house? He gave me advice on types of shingles to use. He came to the store with me and showed me the differences in brands, and suggested I might like the architectural look, as opposed to the 3-tab.I agreed and was very thankful for his advice. We arranged for him to return to the site, after the proper shingles were delivered, one week later. (I offered to pay his gas-as he lived about 2 hours away...and I did pay for his accommodation when he came back). On several different occasions he asked me to pick up materials as there were "not enough" or "not any" (in his words). If there was no starter strip on site...then why did he not ask me to pick any up in the several conversations that we had? Why would one even start a roofing job without starter material? Is that not similar to pouring foundation with no rebar? YOU JUST DONT DO IT!!! Turns out my suppliers have charged me for starter, and assure me it was delivered...so where are they? As I have found out, starter strip ensures a properly finished, to CODE, job. Without this the shingles will not last, will fly off, will not be waurenteed by the manufacturer, and will leek. This we found out after the first rainfall following installation! We have tried reasoning with him...to which he blames everything on my roofing ignorance and inexperience. Of course I don't know everything about roofing...if I did, then wouldn't I have been up on the damn roof doing the job myself...saving thousands of dollars??!! What a completely ignorant human being he is. I hope this helps take him out of business! Wally with Ladder Jacks Exteriors is not to be trusted!

Roof in lacombe

Very poor workmanship. When tried to reach him to resolve issues he will not return calls. Took payment in cash with no reciept. Had his 15 year old daughter helping him. Job looks like a green person off the street had done it.

Had roof re-done

Dear Walter:
Throughout the week I heard you and your workers grueling away up there, and couldn’t believe your toughness and perseverance. And for all that I really want to thank you.
In the end I was proud of how honest and hardworking you were and how good the job turned out to be. It was all that I had hoped for.
If you need me for a reference or anything to help you grow your business, please let me know as I would be more than willing to promote you and yours.
You are a true “Small Business Man”, making a large statement, and I hope that you thrive and sustain and get your fair share of the market, as you can run with the best and biggest of them.
Again. I would be happy to spend time on the phone with any potential customer.
Please have them call me at home anytime if they are thinking of replacing or getting a new roof.

Re-roof house

We had Walter and one of his workers of Ladder Jack Exteriors do a re-roof on our house in December 2011. Here are some of the obserations:
- dumped shingles off house with no consideration of what was below. Damaged shrubs (one broke at roots) and broke solar garden lights. Broke stucco off house when removing shingles.
-estimate included papering roof, but was not papering roof. Only started when I questioned him. Probably 1/3 of job was done before he started.
-did not do a proper clean-up. 100's of nails, shingle pieces, food containers and cigarette butts all left behind for me to deal with. 5 flat tires from nails dropped on our driveway and lane.
- workmanship was questionable with many exposed nails, roof caps crooked, crooked and ragged shingles at ends, and improper venting of vaulted ceiling. He was back a few times to deal wtih some of these, but never really fully resolved.
- original roof before replacing had no leaks. Re-roof has three leaks. Have been dealing with him for over 3 months to have these fixed. He has been out a number of times, but has not been able to fix the problem. I am now going to hire another company to do the repairs. Water damage to ceiling and hardwood floors is occurring from constantly getting wet.
Update: Had the work reviewed by third party and repaired. Many problems were uncovered like incorrect offsets and overlapping shingles. The shingles installed also had to have paper underneath, so warranty would be void because not correctly installed. Rows of shingles missing and crooked. When repairs were made it was found that the previous shingles in the problem areas had not all been removed. The fellow wondered if this guy knew how to shingle, and was suprised when I told him he had been in business for 8 years. On the ground before getting on my roof he said it looks like someone did a butcher job on my roof.

Nice guy but very disorganized. The job was sub par, especially the finishing details. He did keep on coming back to fix things up but too much of a hassel.
