Roof Replacement

Our roof was reshingled this past weekend; the estimate we received was fair and accurate, the work was done quickly and capably, and no mess was left behind. Would recommend to anyone. Great work!

vent flashing repair

I contacted four companies for quotes and DVR was the lowest (vs. $450 and $565 and no call back within a day). I reached DVR while they were driving and they asked if they could call back in ten minutes. They called back in a few hours.

We arrange a quick meeting to look things over a few days later. I came home early from work and called to confirm - it seemed like they had forgotten and had a vehicle repair issue. We re-scheduled for the next day after my regular work hours.

DVR was waiting when I got home and quickly assessed things (we were pretty clear what the issue was). Told me his plan, said he'd be there in the next 1-2 days, and we shook on it. I appreciated the informal nature - no big contract to sign, just trust between us.

Some quick research showed that his suggestion (plastic flashing to replace old metal flashing) was solid.

The next two days were really cold, so it was three days later when the vent flashing was replaced. I had forgotten to ask to see the old flashing so I particularly appreciated that it was waiting on my front porch for review when I got home.

Later that evening DVR showed up to pick up the cheque and the old flashing now that I'd seen it. Provided additional details about the job.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the price, the workmanship looks solid (hasn't rained yet, but I'm sure if there's any issues they'll address them), and I felt that they were very competent. Punctuality was a bit of an issue, but my roof wasn't actively leaking (only during big storms) so that didn't bother me - I'll assume they had other more urgent calls to deal with.

Roofing/Repair to Detached Garage

I called DVR based on the positive reviews here, but in the end I chose them for the job based on Dimitri's knowledgeable, professional and honest manner. The crew came on the day/time they promised and completed the work exactly when they said they would. The original double-shingled roof was in very bad condition and the front facing fascia was full of Woodpecker holes. The new shingles we chose are an excellent quality/guarantee so we won't have to worry about them for a very long time. We had our first long hard rain last night and the inside of the garage roof is dry as a bone this morning. They replaced the fascia with new wood/aluminum overlay and it fits so well it looks like it was made at the same time as the garage. The crew knew what they were doing, were polite and very hard working. The entire area was left clean and orderly like they'd never been there. Dimitri/DVR is obviously serious about doing a good job and their price was more competitive than other companies I had called. My only regret is that I didn't know about them years ago when we had the house shingled, we would have called them instead. However, based on the work they did for us, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend DVR to anyone needing house or garage roofing. Thanks Dimitri and your whole team!

roofing replace

Today I had my shingle roof estimate done by DVR. I thought the quotation was a bit high. He said if I "sign the agreement and pay $400 for posit I could get around $270 cheaper.I paid $200 for deposit. Then I found the price was still over my budget. I would like to cancel the agreement. I called DVR and said I wanted $100 of the deposit back and they could keep $100 for my haste and hot-headed decision. DVR refused to pay back haif of my deposit.I chose DVR because of all the good reviews on Homestar. But now I want to remind all the potential consumers think it over before you sign the agreement and pay deposit for it. Otherwise you may lose your deposit.

Company Response

Hello Jenifer!
By signing the contract you agree to the terms and conditions of the contract. My initial price was $4960+ hst. When I walked you through the contract, you mentioned that if I would lower a price a bit you would sign the contract. After negotiating the price with you for 1 hour, I lowered the price by 25% ( $4150 hst in),and you signed the contract. You also mentioned that you have a leak in the bedroom and that your roof needs to be fixed ASAP . I noted on the contract that the soonest i can start you project prior you signing the contract, would either be Friday August 6,2014 or Monday August 11,2014. When you called later that day at 9 pm and started telling me that if I don't start on Tuesday you will cancel the contract. Even though the date was set on August 6 or Aug 11 weather permitting. I offered you a resolution that I will come by on Monday August 4 ( civic holiday) and temporary fix your roof until the start date due to high volume of work. However, you decided to hang up the phone on me and blame DVR for no reason.

Roof replacement

DVR replaced our roof in 2012 and did an excellent job. They were very professional throughout the process from providing the most competitive quote through to finishing the job on time and on budget. The crew worked in a safe and tidy manner with the appropriate equipment. When we called about a slight issue on our north wall after the brutal 2013 winter, they came out the same day, did a thorough investigation and made an adjustment. The owners Viktor and Dmytriy definitely stand behind their guarantee and we are very satisfied with the quality of the work and the customer service.

Repaired roof

We had a roof leak over our daughter's bedroom. DVR came to do a review and estimate on time compared to others. They provided a solid quote and came back to repair the roof when they said they could.

They did a quality job replacing all the shingles, the final price matched the quote, as well they cleaned everything up. And we had a same day guarantee that it was fixed as we had a storm right after they completed and no more leaks!

Asphalt roof reshingle

I had a 14 year old original shingled roof that was in need of replacement. I am in a middle of the row townhouse with neighbors on each side. I did extensive research on the shingling process, shingle brands, where installers typically cut corners, etc. I interviewed 8 companies in the process and received a wide range of quotes. I ultimately decided to go with DVR based on their feedback on this site, the shingle brand they were using (Certainteed Landmark, which based on general consensus in the roofing community and based on my own opinion is a superior product compared to comparable IKO, BP and GAF shingles), the fact that they quoted full roof underlayment in addition to ice and water shield, and the comfort I received in knowing that they would not use third party installers. All the quotes that came cheaper than DVR did not include full roof underlayment so it was easy to see where the 'apparent' savings were coming from. DVR's quote was in the middle of the range of quotes I received which gave me comfort. I was able to convince 4 out of the 6 neighbors in my row to go with DVR and each were satisfied with their work.

On the day of the installation, Dimitri and Victor showed up right on time. They are not rushed and took their time with the installation which finally produced a result which is far superior than the original builder-supplied roof I had.
I wish Dimitri and Victor all the best with their business.

$4,200.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
A detailed customer information package telling the customer what to expect on the day of the installation. Even though DVR looked after the clean up and protected the landscaping from damage as much as they could, it would be nice to know definitively what precautions they would take and what they expect from the home owner, e.g. cover the bbq, close all windows to prevent dust from entering the house, etc.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Speak to the prospective installer about the shingle brand they are using. Don't be afraid to go with a different color shingle than what is installed. The color selection today is vastly superior to what it was 15 years ago. If you are in a town house, don't be afraid to take the initiative to talk to your neighbors. Ultimately, it is best if the entire townhouse (or semi) roof is done together and by the same company so that there is no finger pointing later in case of a leak with each company pointing the blame at the other.

Ask what shingle brand the installer is providing. Ask about full roof underpayment. Ask the roofer to assess the existing attec ventilation. If you are in a townhouse like me, don't be afraid to take the initiative in speaking to all of your neighbours and lead the discussions with roofing companies. Ultimately, it is best if the entire townhouse roof is replaced at the same time by the same installer so that you don't have finger pointing if there is ever a leak with each roofer blaming the other one.

Roof maintenance

The gentlemen from DVR Roofing where very professional. Considering it is a roof and you can't see what is going on, they took pictures of the problem and patched it up very well. They also told me about regular roof maintenance and when I would need to change the whole roof.

Roofing

DVR Roofing is very prompt and sharp to their schedule of work. Besides they are quite considerate and flexible too for providing little extra effort beyond their actual contractual obligations for a very reasonable price. Victor was very courteous, respectful and patience to answer all our questions. We have found them worth a bit more than what they have quoted in their estimate. I would be highly delighted to refer them without any hesitations, being a senior construction manager. DVR Roofing do earn their credentials. Date of roofing: April 1st, 2014.
