Moving From AB to BC

Price is double the estimate. So unprofessional movers. False delivery dates. Missing items. Broken items. No actual claim, just fake process no matter your items value. Externally urgent and unethical representative/management team.

Company Response

I am disappointed at the customers dishonest and incomplete review comments.
What she conveniently failed to mention is that her household weight was more than double of her own estimates. She said she has 2500 lbs of stuff but it was actually close to 6000 lbs. And that was the reason that the move could not be finished the same day because it took the crew longer to pick up. That is why the invoice was double from the quotation.
We have the emails to prove that we offered to pay for her hotel for the night stay and even offered to help her find a pet friendly hotel. We offered that they could deduct that amount from the total payment the only condition was they had to give us the hotel receipt.
I guess some people are good at shamelessly lying and telling stories that are just stories with no truth to it.
We still wish her good luck.

Moving from Ontario to Grande Prairie, AB

On the pickup date, the movers were professional and I praised them for that. However, everything became a nightmare once our items arrived in Calgary. The company appears not to live up-to their promises, as such I am now having to fight to simply have the service that was promised on the contract and through phone calls I made to Mid west movers and storage. I was promised 5 weeks of storage once the household items arrived in Calgary, that is after the 10 to 15 days of shipping; but because I disputed the company wanting to hike the shipping rate to an amount higher than what was on the contract, they are now withdrawing the storage offer on the pretext that the storage started from the day of the pickup, which everyone knows does not make sense. I am extremely disappointed at their insensitive dealings because I mentioned to Debra the sales person that we do not have a permanent home until the end of October, but she simply does not care that they are breaking their promise. What they are saying is that we will be charged a storage fee of .08 cents per pound effective October 2nd if we do not get our items from their storage. It appears that they are more into making profit for the company and do not care for proper customer service. Very disappointed indeed and will never recommend the company to anyone.

Moving from AB to Toronto

DO NOT TOUCH THIS COMPANY WITH A TEN FOOT POLE. We were continuously told things that were untrue, and treated like pawns in the whole situation. Things went relatively smoothly until my husband and I were on our honeymoon overseas, and received an email saying if we "didn't reply by noon today to confirm the change of date of your pick up, I've been leaving messages on your phone all week" then the moving company would cancel our contract. Meanwhile we had limited wifi and had not checked our email in several days, therefore missing the deadline to reply. Prior to this, the customer service agent and I had only corresponded by email so I am not sure why telephoning numerous times with no response was her preferred method of communication. While we were still overseas, we had to contact family to try and phone the company, as we literally had ONE DAY between our honeymoon and our pickup date, August 22, which they had decided to move up by one day. Completely without our input. Originally we were told 5-10 business days before our stuff would arrive, which is why we chose the moving date that we did. Family had booked flights to come help us move on the other end. Then we find out it will be 1 MONTH before our stuff would arrive. Luckily we found this out before we drove out to Ontario, but it caused us to have to unpack boxes and take out more items we would require for the month. One month from our pick up date I call the company and ask what the arrival date will be. I found out that the "customer service" agent had "no idea" our items were still being stored in Calgary, and that they would be shipped out September 27. Meanwhile I was informed I could not speak to a supervisor, nor would they reimburse us of any inconvenience. Summer was ending, and I had no appropriate autumn clothes, not having anticipated requiring clothes for more than one month. Furthermore, the company told us that they were "having trouble with their Ontario office and currently trying to hire a new office" to deal with our items once they arrived in Ontario. We were told that the moving company "didn't want to send our items with the old company in case there was trouble." Then they sent us our quote, which charged us for the one month storage fee in Calgary. When I called to tell them I would not be paying that seeing as I did NOT WANT my items stored in Calgary for a month, i was told that they "mistakenly sent me someone else's quote." Completely untrue because everything on the quote was correct including pick up address etc. They also had not included the student discount they'd promised as my husband is a student. In the end our items arrived in Toronto TWO MONTHS after being picked up in Edmonton, On October 22. I remind you that the first estimate was 5-10 business days. Furthermore, when I asked the Ontario movers, on a hunch, whether they recently had begun working for midwest, they replied "NO, we have been working with Midwest for ages, and they are terrible!" So the Calgary company had completely misled to us about the reason our items were held up in Calgary for a month. This experience caused a LOT of unnecessary stress and inconvenience, including intruding on our honeymoon among other things. The customer service is a JOKE, and this company needs to be investigated for TERRIBLE mishandling of people's moving situations.

Company Response

We apologize profusely for the mishandling of this situation. As a national moving company we value our customers and their input, whether it is positive or negative. In all our moving contracts, communication is extremely important; we do not proceed without client input, be it through email, or phone access. If we are unable to contact our customers, we do not have the authority to move or access any of the customer's belongings. In this specific case, we did have some difficulty contacting the client due to the fact the client was not in the country. However, when we did achieve contact with the client, we were able to establish a pick up date for their belongings. With every delivery contract that moves several provinces, we always inform our clients that the approximate time that it will take for items to arrive will be between 10-15 business days. If there was any miscommunication on that, we do apologize on our part. The “customer service agent” that was handling this case has been let go because of this specific situation. The agent did not let the client know that their shipment was the only one that was scheduled for moving. Normally our policy states that we ship out a minimum of 20000 lbs of items at one time (all moving companies have this policy). However the items belonging to this client only amounted to 4000 lbs. This policy was not communicated to the client. They were only told about the delivery date and not about the policy. We inform all our clients about the storage fee, and because this client only had 4000 lbs worth of items, they were informed that it would have to be stored until the minimum weight was reached. We have also been informed by the client of the phone conversations that they had with our agent and since then this agent no longer works for our company. Also, there must have been a confusion, as the company that we delivered the items to you was in fact a company we just started working with, we had not been working for them for long before this, let alone "for years". We are extremely disappointed in the fact that we have let our client down and we apologize profusely for the distress and hassle that it has caused our client. We can only hope that this does not happen ever again in the future.

Move from Ottawa to Calgary

I have used Mid-West twice to move items from Ontario to Alberta. The first move went smoothly except for the late arrival of the pick-up truck to our site near Ottawa. It was delayed in transit from the Maritimes and the office contact was very good to keep me abreast of their location and updated the arrival time. All other aspects of the move went smoothly. I have recommended the company several times.
However...
I have just completed a second move of items, again from Ontario to Alberta but must now qualify my first review. The pick-up was on time and went smoothly. The physical delivery went smoothly and the guys on the truck were great. Here is the 'However'..the customer service staff was not great! All seemed to go well until I started checking for the timing of the shipment's arrival. I contacted the company in Mid-August and was told to be patient, I would be notified of it's arrival. September 8 I phoned and asked to have the shipment tracked and was told it was in the warehouse and that the local scheduler would be in touch to arrange a date and time. On a second call I was told that the scheduler was busy with a packing job and wouldn't be available for another week. I indicated that I needed to work around an out of town trip the third week of September, that I would like it before I left, but also indicated that a date close to September 23 would work. I phoned on September 22 and asked for the delivery time and the customer service rep that I was dealing with was surprised, said that there was no way for a delivery on the 23rd as discussed earlier and would look into an alternate date. At this point I had not received a single call initiated by the company regarding the delivery. It was delivered today September 25 after an email exchange in which I started to show my frustration.
I was charged a months storage, $198.00 although the company had indicated in earlier correspondence that the contract included one month's free storage. (Aug 24 -Sept 24) ON the merit side, the $100. change for a delivery address change was waived. Thus I am dropping my evaluation from a five to a three star based on this move.

Cross country move

Nearly every piece of furniture arrived damaged, boxes marked fragile were crushed and the company refused to take responsibility or apologize for the damages. They were late arriving to drop off our belongings. They did not respond to questions promptly and misled me more than once. Customer service was poor and I would never recommend this moving company to anyone.

Our move

We were misquoted, the professionalism of the lead mover was lacking and now their follow up on the damage to our furniture and customer service is extremely poor. Don't touch them with a 10-foot pole.

Mid-West Moving & Storage

We moved from Calgary to Toronto. It took about 3 weeks to get our stuff, which was what we were told, but except for one little cheap wine glass, NOTHING WAS BROKEN! The moving guys on both ends were very professional and nice and arrived on time. We had about 4000 lb of stuff which included our motorcycle and special handling, and for that, we got a very good rate. The only thing I didn't like was that our sales rep/contact changed 3 times during the whole move (each time the last one was suddenly no longer with the company), which was unsettling, but the people I dealt with were pleasant and helpful each time.

Long Distance Moving & Storage

Just want to thank the people at the Mid-West Moving and Storage for giving a positive and great moving experience. We recently moved from Vancouver, BC to Calgary, AB. The sales staff, Jennifer, has been very very friendly and helpful to accommodate our moving needs (price quote, pick-up date and time, storage need and delivery of our belongings to the new place). She is very professional and she ensures that all the promises in the contract were kept. In addition, their drivers and moving staffs also acted very professional and friendly. The drivers (Haydar and Casey) and their moving staffs were exceptional and they showed these by carefully packing, un-packing and carrying our belongings. Would definitely recommend them to our family and friends. Keep up the good work.

Moving and Storage

We hired Mid-west to move us from Vancouver to Calgary last year because their price was lower than other companies we got quotes from. They also provided a free month of storage which came in handy. Some items were broken in the move but maybe that's typical in any move, so I'm going to recommend Midwest based on their competitive prices.
