Move

I was told there would not be hidden costs and there were several when my things showed up. Make sure you get in writing 1)the carrying cost for the movers and 2) the interest to pay with credit card. This is where I got screwed and I haven't received a response from Bluestar about my dissatisfaction. They will not reimburse anything but you must pay whatever they say in order to get your things. I would see another company but ensure all details are in the contract as theirs were not!

This is the worst and the most expansive moving experience I have ever had. I asked for my packages to be picked up on Feb 26th, and the company said yes, and told me they will give me a call a day or two before the pick up date and let me know the exact time for the pick up. But they end up called me on Feb 24th, at 9 p.m. and told me they are going to pick up my packages on Feb 25th.
SO, WHAT IS THE POINT TO SET UP THE DATE FOR PICK UP?

I have moved from places to places, during all kinds of seasons, I have never have a problem with "the truck is too big cannot get up hill due to the weather, so we need to charge you for long carry fee".
NOTHING ABOUT THE LONG CARRY FEE WAS MENTION IN THE E-MAIL, AND THE WORST THING IS THEY DID NOT EVEN SEND ME A CONFORMATION E-MAIL AFTER I PAID FOR MY DEPOSIT.

I called the company and told them about this, and they gave me the worst attitude ever. The guy who answered the phone made me feel like I am dumb and cannot even read e-mail correctly. But the thing is I read the e-mail carefully and I am 100% sure that nothing about the long carry fee was mention in the e-mail.
And he said the contract do state a long carry fee as a extra fee that might be charged, but I did not see the contract until the day that my packaged got picked up.

The company called me/my brother and told him the packages will be dropped off tomorrow morning between 9-11. I Hope they will be here on time, and I will not have any missing boxes or broken stuff.

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY, THEY ARE THE WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER.
If I can do this again, I would rather pay more and go for a better company.

Service

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY ....!!! When I initially called the company about a move from London Ontario to Halifax Nova Scotia, I was given a pick up date and a delivery date. They picked it up on the date ( about 5 hours late), and after I called to find out what was happening with the pick up. However, they told me the delivery would be made on a date two weeks from the pick up , so I expected it to be delivered on the date that they said. After the 2 weeks passed and we did not hear from them , we called and was told ,VERY RUDELY,that we could not been given a date and that they weren't sure when the delivery would be made. On top of that , they charged us another $200 dollars extra for some fee that they also neglected to tell us...and told us that our weight was added wrong initially , so they had to re-weigh and of course came up with more weight and more money.
Needless to say, this was one of the worst experiences that I have ever gone through. My daughter was in tears after hearing , on two occasions, how much extra she would have to pay to have her things delivered. The items finally arrived after about 4 weeks later.
Would definitely not recommend this company to anyone. My advice to them would be to be upfront with customers. Let them know exactly when items can be picked up and when they will be delivered. If the cut off date has passed for pickup then they should also let customers know before they book pickups with them. If you do not know...then say that you do not know, or are not sure of the exact time of delivery. At least, we would have been able to weigh our options. Never again!!!

Move fro Burlington, Ontario to Calgary, Alberta

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY....BEWARE!!!
Was told I would receive my belongings within 5 to 7 days, they came to pick up our belongings on December 30th, 2013. Movers were ok, except for one of the men was on his cell phone numerous times. When I called looking for our belongings on January 6th, 2014, I was told that our belongings would not be leaving until January 10th, Steve Aslan the supposed General Manager advised that my rep. Elizabeth would have told me that containers only leave Toronto twice a month. Told him that there was no such discussion by phone or email confirmations. Told him I wanted compensation, he offered a 5% discount, told him I was not satisfied with this, he assured me he would do his best, and call me back, he never called back, I called his several times, to be told he was not in, or on a call, or in the warehouse, I spent about 4 hours in total on hold. Steve in the end basically told me he didn't have time for me, and that he was ending our conversation, i asked for the owners name, Steve refused to provide me with a name, very unprofessional for a so called General Manager. It is now January 15th, 17 days later and was told again that we won't have our belongings until January 17th to the 20th. Regret not seeing these reviews before booking.

Move from Cottam, Ontario to Okotoks Alberta

This was absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with and would not recommend this company to anyone. To start, they were 7 hrs late to pick up our stuff in Ontario, we worked through until 2:00am with myself and family assisting. (not part of the deal).
After providing 24 day notice to have items delivered to new residence (only 10 days was required), they were 10 days late with furniture. Constant calling and I could never get a straight answer or a revised date for delivery. The delivering company in Alberta was not affiliated with them at all, only sub contracted and they only placed the heavy stuff where needed, everything else was dropped at door (not what we were told nor paid for)
We were told to file a complaint on their web site, which we did outlining lost and or damaged items (which there was damaged equipment and missing items), this was filed on week of Sept 1, and here it is November 21, 2013 and still no response.
The actual movers where great, and pleasant to deal with, management and sales where just horrible, you can never get a hold of them and there response to emails is horrible, you almost had to be threating to get a response.
Bottom line, don't use this company, I would even recommended them to an enemy.

Move from St. Catharines, ON, to Victoria, BC

This was the first time I had ever used a moving company. Elizabeth made this very easy for me. She price-matched the best quote I had received from another company, and explained each portion of charges very thoroughly, and without making me feel simple.
The two gentlemen who came to pick up my stuff were very nice and professional. I hadn't really thought of how to pack my large screen TV, and they gave me options to do it myself, or have them do it for a nominal fee, which would also insure it. I chose to have them pack it, because an extra $50, when looking at the overall cost didn't seem like a big deal. They were very efficient and polite, and had everything out in under an hour. They went over the paperwork with me and made sure I understood everything before they left.
Moving cross country can be very stressful, but Elizabeth made this much easier. Whenever I had a question, or concern, she responded to me promptly, and without ever making me feel silly. It's nice to have a contact that treats you like a real person. It also made it easier for me, because instead of calling the main office and trying to get answers, I could just email her, and she took care of all the calls for me.
When my delivery arrived, again the movers were very polite and efficient, and seemed genuinely surprised that I helped with removing the moving blankets. I don't imagine their job is easy, and it was a small gesture. Again, they were very quick and efficient, and offered to help me set up my bed (it was purchased new before the move, and frame and headboard were still boxed.) I declined, only because I like to do such things myself. The only item that had any "damage" was a very flimsy shelf that I had damaged myself many times over the years, and was able to fix in a matter of minutes.
All in all, this was a great experience. I had spoken to other companies, but none of them made me feel like they genuinely wanted my business, I just felt like I was another pay out for them.
I can't say enough good things about Bluestar, and Elizabeth specifically.

Moving Company

Avoid like the plague! You would be better off throwing your things out and buying them all again at your destination. I Can't think of a single positive experience that I had with Blue Star Van Lines during the course of our move.
Our shipment was picked up by two slow-moving and tired-looking men. While packing our things, the driver was phoned on several occasions by a woman who was "wondering where all of her things were". The driver kept telling her to phone Blue Star, and it sounded like she had before with little luck, and was calling him as she had nobody else to ask about her things. This made us nervous.
Upon loading our shipment (Calgary to Vancouver), the driver assured us that he would be in Vancouver to drop everything off at our new place within 3 days.
Upon getting to Vancouver, the shipment didn't arrive. My girlfriend and I called Blue Star roughly 5 or 6 times each over the next three weeks. During each call, we were passed from one secretary to the next, each with conflicting stories of what city our stuff was in (one even thought it was in Ontario). Most gave the impression that they had no records of who we were or where ANY shipment was. Each call ended with a secretary assuring us that everything would arrive "in 3 days". 3 is their magic number.
Eventually a family member living in Calgary got through to the Calgary branch and found out our stuff had been left in a storage space in Calgary, and Blue Star had planned to eventually bring it A MONTH AND A HALF after pick up as this was a time more convenient for them. They didn't even notify us to tell us this, and the head office wouldn't tell us that this was their intention upon our contacting them.
In the end, some members of my family ended up picking up the stuff themselves in a trailer and brought it all out to Vancouver themselves as well.
If I could give Blue Star Van Lines a "negative star out of five" rating, I would. It's amazing that companies like this manage to continue to operate.
