I hired Relocation Services Canada to move me from Ottawa to Edmonton.
Pat Walsh is a Sales Representative for Relocation Services Canada. However, when moving time came we realized Pat Walsh was very misleading in the way our shipment would be delivered/handled from Ottawa, ON to Spruce Grove, AB. for delivery Aug 24th.
When I sent in my request for quotes for multiple movers I was given quotes for 4 weeks of free storage and $0.50-$0.58/lb. I wanted this because I knew it would take time and money to move from Ottawa, ON to Spruce Grove, AB. When speaking with Pat, he told me the reason other companies were offering free storage was because the shipments sit in a truck and wait to be filled with other shipments and only sent to the destination when full.
He said Relocation Services Canada doesn't do that, and if we go with Relocation Services Canada this would not happen. Instead our shipment would go directly to Spruce Grove, AB.
It would not be unloaded and reloaded, thus, decrease the risk of our shipment becoming damaged.
So we agreed to pay more per/lb and agreed that we needed to pay for storage in Calgary as our shipment would arrive quickly, prior to our occupancy in Spruce Grove, AB.
I was told I had to pay one month minimum for storage. So to ensure safety of my shipment in a timely manner, Pat agreed this was the best method.
When the movers came July 27th (contractors of AMS) I was surprised to find out that they are contracted with all moving companies. It was frustrating that the movers did not bring a big enough truck, so they had no choice but do take apart everything possible to make it fit in the truck and took 12 hours. The movers worked very hard all day, and we were very pleased with this workmanship.
The movers that day also informed us that our shipment would be taken to Guelph? ( an AMS location/holding area). This was not accurate with what Pat told us.
A week later, we were charged more money due to fuel surchage and also found out our shipment was still on hold in Guelph waiting payment. (not in storage). It was okay to pay the extra fuel surchage but was surprised it hadn't left Ontario yet as per Pat's instruction.
When we arrived in Spruce Grove, AB we expected our shipment for August 24th and when called to confirm on the 23rd, found it hadn't arrived in Calgary yet.
We were told by Wayne that our shipment was placed on a slow moving truck because it was storage priority. So our shipment was never in storage in Calgary? We paid for this!
I have a family, twin babies and a 3 year old who are very dependent on our shipment arriving on time. The fact that our shipment left Ottawa on the 27th of July should pose no reason to be late for August 24th.
I had also made confirmations with Western dispatch 1 and 2 weeks prior to.
The emails I sent you were because AMS told us our shipment was never in storage and never redistributed in Ontario and Calgary, which is approx $1400.00.
I have the emails to prove it. When confirming with Balva at Eastern Dispatch and Western Dispatch that no redistribution or storage took place, I requested a refund. Western dispatch contacted Eastern Dispatch and all of a sudden, out of the blue, they decided our shipment was in storage after all in Ontario and I should be charged. This is manipulating what occurred with our shipment to keep my money, my shipment was in a hold time in Ontario, never stored or redistributed. My shipment was already late on top of it all. A person named Wayne western dispatch was also very rude.
So this is what doesn't make sense, why are we paying for storage in Ontario when they confirmed with us it was never stored but in a hold time (as per one of the attached emails) Even so, this doesn't line up with Pat Walsh saying the shipment would go directly to Calgary for storage.
I have tried calling Pat numerous times for an explanation but he hasn't responded. He told us that Relocation Services Canada is known for their excellent customer service and a good BBB rating....hmmm?
The point is I could have went with another company, received 4 weeks free storage, had my stuff on time
for $2000.00 less for the same service I received with Relocation Services/AMS.
I was mislead by Pat and mislead by Balva at AMS.
