Recently we moved from London Ontario to the Greater Vancouver area BC. Our experience with Trillium Movers was a nightmare. Initially the customer service given by Kate was what one would expect, however the alarm bells started to go off when the movers started to pack our furniture and boxes in London. They had this sheet of contents which they wanted signed before the truck would move out and on it were a list of all our belongings. Well, as 99% of our furnishings was less than two years old, and well looked after, we were very surprised at the comments regarding many scratches on items. This we were told was normal. Thinking that the movers were doing as instructed and being over enthusiastic, we simply signed the form and hoped our belonging would arrive in BC unscathed, because Kate told us on the phone "every care would be taken". When we mentioned insurance, the men who loaded the truck said there "was no need for insurance, nothing ever gets broken" and this was something we should have done. We should have taken out insurance because there was in excess of $4000.00 damage. In fact, some things did not even arrive at the destination, for example a large thick piece of glass which we had specially cut by a glass company to protect the top of an expensive wooden dining table. When our belongings arrived in BC we were held at ransom for an additional charge of $500.00 because there were three small flights of stairs. We had already mentioned this to Kate who had told us the stairs were no problem. We are appalled and dismayed and very very disappointed at the end result of this move. Kate gave us great lip service, always polite and reassuring on the phone but that is all. When we complained about all the damage, flattened boxes, broken furniture, a leg missing from an antique chair that has been around for over four hundred years without damage, we were sent damage claim forms to complete. We requested that someone come over and see for themselves the damage however this idea was squashed. Instead we had to complete lengthy forms stating all the damage. We were conservative in our estimates which reached $3600.00. We were offered $75.00 in compensation plus another $100.00 as "goodwill". What complete nonsense! Kate responded to our emails and phone calls by time and time again saying "this is a family business" which made us wonder if we were the bad guys picking on this poor family, yeah right! In the end, we were compensated by a poultry $600.00 which is most unfair. We will never use Trilium Movers again, in fact we feel so disappointed by the whole experience, we are thinking of taking up legal action against this company who did not take care of our belongings. In fact the very desk I am writing from is bowed in the middle due to heavy things having been placed onto it, no doubt to maximize the load from Ontario to BC. These people should not be in business if this is how they handle things. We had a household of furniture plus 68 boxes which were moved by this company, so not a small load for a household. We may as well have taken everything to the goodwill and bought new furniture in Vancouver. It has been a most costly and awful experience. We do NOT recommend this company. Just so you know, we have lived in many parts of the world and had movers move us several times. Nothing like this has happened before. Shame on you Trillium Movers! Shame on you!
