Indoor Air Quality Ottawa

We discovered visible water and mold damage in the basement of our newly purchased home. We had Shawn come out to the house and perform testing and sure enough we had major drainage issues around the house resulting in high levels vapour pressure under the house and mold was detected in the basement as well as spores on the upper levels. Shawn has been with us from the beginning, taking on a very professional and expert consultative role. He has guided us through the remediation phase, to trouble shooting around the interior and exterior walls of our home and has even helped us to design a whole new, completely ventilated flooring system for our basesment that will ensure that we never have a water/mold issue again. My husband and I had Shawn in our rental home to perform air quality testing. Amongst other things Shawn detected mold in our basement behind the walls. We hired a mold contractor we found on the internet and had Shawn perform " clearance testing" before we paid for the mold removal work. Am I glad we did! Shawn had to come back three times before Mold contractors work passed clearance testing.

My wife and I always thought the odour from our basement was related to mold. We put off the inspection because we couldn’t afford an expensive mold removal project. Shawn inspected our home in May and found a broken plumbing vent pipe emitting sewer gas odours. We had a plumber replace the pipe and presto no more odour. This is after receiving a 4,000.00 quote from a mold removal company that came in and tested the air. I recommend independent testing and consulting before any work regarding air quality.

In January 2012, we noticed our windows kept fogging up in bedrooms and along the North side of the house. A window salesman came out and recommended new windows with better seals. In the spring of 2013 IAQ Ottawa performed a test that revealed our house was under negative pressure due to mechanical equipment. Turns out the HRV intake grill was completely blocked by grass clippings. Shawn cleaned the grill (and showed me how to clean my HRV Unit) and this winter our old windows remained fog free
