Moving from St. John's to Montreal

Worst of my 13 moves in Canada. This time I moved from Montreal to St. John's with 1541 lbs of personal items. Lived in St. John's for 4 years and came back to Montreal. Before returning, I donated at least 300 lbs of books, clothes, old computer and monitor, ornaments, etc. I purchased nothing new. AMJ Campbell billed me for 1565 lbs, i.e. more than the original 1541 lbs I went to NL with. A totally impossible weight. In addition, the inexperienced movers that came to pick up my stuff were careless, unfriendly and spent all the time joking around and/or arguing with each other while handling items. When I got my stuff in Montreal boxes with books were wet as if left in the rain or on a wet floor, practically every box was scratched or ripped, even my metal trunks had heavy scratches. This move was far from stress-free and pleasant. All the time there was a sense that items were not treated safely. Very unprofessional movers.

Household Move

Just a heads up to warn everyone if you are planning to move DO NOT USE AMJ Campbell on Vipond Road in Mississauga, Ontario. I recently used them in a move and it was the worst move of my life.

First off they arrive 2 hours earlier that the appointment and I had to have a serious discussion with them to have them deduct the 2 hours off the bill since I would be not be able to get into the house I was moving into 2 hours earlier.

The movers wrapped everything up beautifully but unfortunately, when they delivered my furniture to me new home they removed all the padding on almost all the items before they brought the pieces in to the house. They damaged so many pieces of furniture that it was heart breaking. They took hunks out of my wall, destroyed a shelving unit and a bookcase and ripped my new mattress covers as well as losing the cushion from my chair, lost pieces to my lamps, destroyed my bookcase and one of my metal shelves and took my office chair with them without my permission. They didn't set up my bed and I was left on my own to try and assemble a Queen sized bed. The headboard is still not attached although I did manage to get the mattress onto the frame by myself.

They have advised me that the insurance company needs a deductible before they can fix anything but the cheque for $150.00 is to be sent to AMJ Campbell not to an insurance company. This sounds very unusual to me and this on top of a fee that is higher than any other moving company I had called.

I have worked with AMJ Campbell out of Hamilton many times for business and wrongly assumed that the Mississauga branch would be as professional and expedient as the Hamilton branch. Obviously all the branches of the company are not the same. So buyers beware!!

Just received a cheque from AMJ Campbell Mississauga for all my damages. The estimate to replace the cushion on my chair that they lost and recover the chair was $600-$800. AMJ Mississauga gave me $50. It cost $200 for the insurance and another $150 for the guy to come out and look at the damage. AMJ Mississauga sent me a cheque for $150 for all the damages. We moved 30 pictures ourselves and nothing was damaged and AMJ Mississauga moved 2 pictures and they broke the frame and put a dent in the canvas of one of them. The picture is useless and they gave me nothing for it. They moved a 4 shelf metal shelving unit and they bend the frame so badly when I tried to put a box on it the whole thing came down on top of me. They gave me $50 to replace the shelving unit. The movers ripped all the trim off my teak bookcase which was 5 feet long and about 3 ft high and put a big hole in the side of it. AMJ Mississauga gave me $50 for that. Almost a year of fighting with them and I get $150. There were also dents in my walls and an antique curio cabinet that they drilled holes in and took brackets from another cupboard so they could put the shelves in since they lost the brackets.

There are good AMJ Campbell branches out there I know since I worked with the one in Hamilton for many years but AMJ Campbell in Mississauga do not have professional movers like they advertised and they didn't even turn up in an AMJ Campbell truck. I was afraid there was a problem when I saw that because if they are using rental trucks instead of their own as far as I'm concerned they are a mickey mouse company. I decided to give them a chance and I paid for it dearly. Don't make the same mistake.

Moved from house to condo.

This was not the first time we contracted a mover. We were happy in previous time. However, AMJ was wonderful! Debbie did the estimate in writing; organized the time and assured us that they we will be out of the house before noon (contractual agreement with the house purchaser) and be at the condo at noon. Time was critical as there was another moving on same day at the condo complex. The truck with the crew arrived on time. They carefully prepared the furniture and fragile items before loading in the van; unloaded at the other end with care. They were done on promised time. That was impressive! However, the move maybe great, but thing could happen. The back mirror in our China cabinet cracked during the move. It was one of the crew who noticed and brought it to our attention. They admitted responsibility (we did not see the crack and they could have just walked off, but did not! Very impressive!). After a couple of days, the glass repairer phoned and arranged time to fix the glass. Done! Kudos to AMJ! Will not hesitate to recommend them to others!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this review of our moving services! We recognize that simple things like arriving on time and keeping our promises go a long way to alleviate the stress of moving, while earning your trust for future moves. Sorry to hear that some damage occurred to your mirror - thank you for understanding that despite our crews always handling your household goods with the utmost care, sometimes things happen. Glad to hear that your mirror was repaired quickly and to your satisfaction and that you would recommend us to your family and friends! Best regards to you!

Moving household from Vancouver to Kelowna

Earlier this year we moved our 20 ft overseas container with Kehrli & Oeler from Switzerland. Their agent in Canada is AMJ Campbell. This company really made every move extremely easy for us. Everything went so smooth, administration and at the customs.

AMJ Campbell also brought our container into the storage facilities in Richmond. The guys did an awesome job. Now they
moved our belongings from Richmond to Kelowna into our
house. Again, everything went great. Many thanks to Janet Delaney and Tia Stevenson at the office. They coordinated our international and local move and kept us always up to date. Also a big thank you to the moving guys, especially Colin and his crew - they were always on time and took real good care of our belongings. Everyone at AMJ did an excellent job. This is the 4th time that we have worked with this company and we would certainly recommend AMJ Campbell to family and friends.

AMJ Campbell made two moves for me recently. One was a shipment of furniture to Ontario and the other was a move of goods to my new address in Victoria. Debbie Butschler, Moving Consultant for the company was thorough and very helpful in all the logistics involved in the two shipments. Leon and his crew who moved the goods to my son's home in Ontario arrived within the stated time period and were very professional and efficient in all aspects involving the move. As an aside, when truck arrived my two and half year old grandson was awestruck. Leon let him sit in the driver's seat and blow the airhorn. A very nice gesture and indicative of good customer service. For the move to my new address in Victoria Randy and his crew just as professional. Randy contacted me twice to keep me up to date on the arrival time and when they did arrive they were efficient in offloading all the furniture and other goods as well as reassembling that which needed to be done.
Moving can be very stressful particularly for two moves being conducted in a short period of time but the people at AMJ Campbell were a delight to work with and completed both moves with no problems.
I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone needing to move locally or long distance.

Moving

Many items were lost while in storage. A desk that had eight legs now has none. An antique china cabinet is missing the shelves. Shouldn't these items be with the piece of furniture in question? Why should we have to look through hundreds of boxes. What incompetence!! It is frustrating and stressful to move and to add to this, lost items. We will be processing a claim for compensation. I will never recommend AMJ Campbell. I regret this decision and I only hope that people will chose an alternate moving company.

Move from Vancouver to Victoria BC

Had the best loading and wrapping of furniture experience ever. The movers were polite and funny and they worked very hard--no elevator--lots of stairs and never a complaint. Treated my furniture nicely, with respect and even made friends with my shy dog! Highly recommend!

Moving around the block

Their estimator seriously underestimated the size of the move, requiring the movers to have to make a second trip. We were quoted an amount to pack the entire house and told the more we packed, the lower the cost would be. We packed about 3/4 of the house and were still charged about 90% of the estimate. When asked for a refund, their only response was they had a signed estimate.

Moving and Packing from Kitchener to Guelph ON

They guaranteed the cost of the move within 10% but it exceeded that (leaving an allowance for the extra pick up of 40 minutes). I paid $1,200 to have them pack and the job of packing was unacceptable. Some items were broken but they made no attempt to replace any broken items. The clothes in the wardrobes were just thrown/jammed in. They took the money from my credit card before checking to see if the job was satisfactory. The deposit was $150. however, at the time of booking they wrote down my credit card number on a piece of paper, therefore they didn't have to check with me before submitting the rest of their balance. They also transported a new sofa from a store to our same condo during the same move (which took an additional 40 minutes according to the driver) and also did some damage. They made no attempt to take care of it. I paid $200.00 insurance which I feel was a money grab. I have pictures to prove all of this. I attempted to get a hold of the fellow that booked our move a couple of times during the move with no success. I would hesitate to recommend this mover.

Costco Mattress Delivery

Belligerent truck drivers. First attempt of delivery was promised 30 min. Warning, given 10, missed delivery. Second attempt, belligerent driver refused a minor request to assist moving original mattress to our garage. Third attempt, third driver refused to assist even though the dispatcher approved assistance. We paid for "white glove delivery", what we received was substandard service with a heavy dose of rudeness. We still don't have that mattress delivered because we refuse to accept this type of service.
