Outstanding service, saved me thousands on a new furnace!
My 7 year old high-efficiency American Standard furnace stopped working suddenly. I called one of the highly advertised companies that claims 'they are not comfortable until you are'. Their technician came for a diagnosis visit and diagnosed that my furnace had problems with the ignitor, controller board as well as heat exchanger unit, making it not feasible to repair due to high cost and also red tagged my unit called it unfit for further use and in violation of the Ontario code. The same evening their sales person showed up quoting me over $4000 for a new furnace and criticizing the unit I had as an inferior brand.
I was in utter shock and started calling other companies to get quotes since I believed the furnace was beyond repair. One of the honest dealers suggested I instead call a company that is an American Standard authorized dealer and get their technician over to take a look. That's how I came across Consumers Energy on Homestars and gave them a call.
Edward from Consumers was very patient and responsive. We spoke that evening and he expressed doubts that a 7 year old furnace had heat exchanger problems. His guess was the problem was likely with the ignitor or controller board but unlikely with all of the above. He sent a technician over the very next morning. Kam (Kamran) was very prompt in arriving early at my home by 8:15 AM and had to deal with diagnosis on a unit where all the wiring had been taken apart by the previous technician and not restored. He assured me upfront that it's highly unlikely the furnace needs to be replaced. Due to his extensive knowledge he troubleshooted step by step and found there was only an issue with the ignitor and flame sensor. He first tested it with an existing ignitor and only then went out to get the new replacement part. He also serviced the unit, fixed the flame sensor issue (due to which the furnace used to keep cutting out), checked the CO level readouts to ensure there were actually no issues with the heat exchanger and also checked temperature differential between input/output ducts to ensure performance efficiency. A through gentleman and professional!
Edward kept in touch through the process and came over from Vaughn to Mississauga that evening to collect the red tag notice so he could follow up with Enbridge to get it cleared and prevent any further issues for me. The price for the repair was very reasonable (less than 10% of cost of a new furnace) and they saved me thousands of $$$ towards a new furnace.
I am extremely satisfied with their level of professionalism and honesty. I highly recommend Consumers Energy Management.
