Custom Build Construction

When I first met David he seemed very friendly and professional. He reviewed the drawings with us that our structural engineer had prepared and gave us a price to pour a concrete bench in our basement and remove and replace some joists in our basement ceiling. His pricing was competitive and he seemed so easy to work with we decided to proceed.

He completed the joists as promised so that part of the job was OK. The disaster started however with the bench which was by far the biggest part of the job. The engineer has provided him the drawings which clearly showed how the rebar was to be positioned, David assured us he could read the drawings and understood them. I made a big mistake and paid David a bit over 50% by this point as David kept asking for more money.

The engineer before the concrete pour attended the site to confirm the rebar was to spec and unfortunately it wasn't even close. David didn't have enough rebar in the bench and it was also not correctly positioned as it was all cut too short. So the engineer indicated he could not sign off on this work at which point David quit the job. David only said he would finish the job if the engineer had no oversight.

For a homeowner this is a horrible experience. Why would I (who know nothing about construction) fire my Professionally registered Structural engineer and put myself in the hands of David who had the drawings in the first place? David refused to return any money and just packed up without notice and left me with a big mess. I paid him way more than I should have for what was done and David told me very rudely where to go over the phone.

I would not recommend David and "Custom Build Construction" at all. He showed his true colors. Stay away. Do not use this company for any work.
