We hired David and Cheresh Homes to renovate our 60 year old family cottage - a 3 season dwelling built riverside on top of Canadian Shield rock in Muskoka. This was a 2 year project to renovate and update the property into a 4 season cottage. We also wished to maintain historical and legacy elements they were important to our family.

Right from the start, David understood our vision and we felt comfortable with his design ideas and approach. It was important to us that he had the design build experience and expertise as a contractor to support this kind of large scale project. His pride of workmanship, creativity, attention to detail and strong relationships with local trades and contractors gave us the confidence that he was the right choice. He had genuine interest and excitement in our project and we felt immediate trust in him to make it happen. This was an extensive renovation project, taking place during the pandemic, which presented its own set of challenges. David and his team rose to the challenge and they handled our project professionally and with care. His crew and contractor tradespeople were respectful, friendly and responsive.

We appreciated his suggestions and recommendations during the project. We knew he had other projects but always felt like we were his most important priority. He was always available to address our questions, help us make decisions and to offer ideas and options to save us time and money. We are beyond thrilled with the results. David and his team did a fantastic job in building us a cottage that will be enjoyed by generations of our family and friends.

Embarking on a large renovation project like this is not for the faint of heart but with David and his crew on our team, we accomplished our goals and then some. David is a kind and genuine person. Is this a key competency for a contractor? Not necessarily, but it certainly makes for a better experience. We hired Cheresh to build our approximately 1500 sqaure foot garage on a wet piece of land on our property. He was not satisfied until he was convinced that the site was properly prepared to accommodate a solid foundation. David's attention to detail regarding the foundation, drainage, design, and quality building practices was second to none. He, and his crews (sub-contractors) at every stage of the build were skilled, professional, approachable, knowledgeable and met David's high quality standards. David kept us informed throughout the build during the challenging time of Covid when supplies and labour were in short supply. His vast experience makes him well equipped to make recommendations and we learned the hard way to listen generously to his suggestions. We are very happy with our garage/art studio.

We hired David and his team to build a crawlspace for our cottage in order to convert it from 3 season 4 season. He also undertook some custom millwork (walnut butcher block island and floating shelves) for our kitchen. For 40 years my wife and I wanted to expand the front entrance to our raised bungalow. Now in our 70's we decided to hire Cheresh Construction because of the excellent work they had done for us 20 years earlier. Big changes for a mid-60's home. Took me several years to find someone I felt comfortable with to do this reno, and David was the one.

We had a shower that needed to be repaired - but decided to take it a little further. Gutted the main floor bath, which is now a terrific 2-piece with hidden laundry. Took a second bedroom and turned it into a new 10' x 10' ensuite bath with an incredible 68" freestanding tub, glassed-in shower, new window, 7' vanity, and heated ceramic floors. Can't decide what's my favourite part - it could be the new 6' x 9' walk-in closet with pocket doors! Or, the full wall of built-ins in the master bedroom with 12 drawers, 12 cupboards - enough room for both my winter and summer clothes at the same time (and my husband even gets to have his own space)! There's also the new vinyl flooring David recommended - everyone who sees it comments on how much they like it. I never thought vinyl plank flooring could look so good. And, I love the 7 new interior doors/trim and brushed nickel hardware throughout, and pot lights sure beat outdated fixtures! We also replaced our living room gas fireplace/mantel with TV above; lighted cabinets on either side.

Although living in a house with renos for 75 days was an experience, and a few surprises along the way, I plan to do more in the future - the kitchen and remaining flooring are next (or maybe change the rest of the interior doors and trim first, or maybe the staircase...).
