Update: He called back and refunded a good chunk of the money, and was honest about it. I have increased my rating and do commend his professionalism in this case. Sometimes not all appliances can be fixed and not all fixes work.
So I had written a review initially since Sam was literally hovering over me as I wrote the review. We had called him since our microwave died, and he was prompt in replying and all - and said it would be $80 for diagnostic, and then if there was any repair, he would include it into the labour fee ($190 was the initial quote). He then came, spent maybe 10 minutes and said that he has to replace the fuse and that the cost is $220. We questioned the price increase, but he said that’s how much it’s going to be. We agreed since we didn’t have another option at this point. He spent 5 more minutes and the microwave worked.
However, within 2 hours of him leaving, the microwave died again. We asked him to refund us some money since he said he will order another part which could take a week or more .. and that it would cost more. At this rate, a brand new microwave with a 4 year warranty was the cheaper option!
Be wary of the charges and maybe get into writing beforehand. He’s not a bad professional, but I feel he is overcharging for the value of the service provided.
