I would suggest reading this review and similar reviews here before deciding to go with this company. I wish I had done the same.
Mistakes made upon the initial install, poor customer service when calling the company (got hung up on), and the inconvenience/ missed work on our part to get the owner to follow through on everything we paid for is what prompted the review. I will say the 2nd installer (that finally came 3 month's later) did a much better job on the replacements.
They seem to go by a few different names, our invoice said Interiors by Better Shade, website says Better Shade and Blinds, the google company listing says Better Shade Co LTD. Don't let the different names confuse you.
Everything started out well, the sales person came to our house with samples and took initial measurements. She was great, knew her products, answered all of our questions. Unfortunately form there things went down hill.
Initial deposit was paid near the end of June, was told near the end of summer we would be contacted for the install.
September 3rd the installer came. We had a large project going on in the back yard so we were only periodically in and out to see how things were going. When he was completed one of the shutters wouldn't close properly which he said he would have to come back with a repair so we held back some of the payment (good thing we did). With the outside project still going on we did not have a chance to have a good look at the blinds until later on that evening.
Upon further inspection we realized there were issues as follows:
- Corners not lining up (big gaps as shown in the pictures)
- Shutter doors not flush with the frames
- Sticky opening and closing due to improper installation
- Screw marks on all of the frames from installation.
- One part of one of the frames was cracked (as shown in the pictures).
I called the office the next day and asked to speak to someone about the installation. The person on the phone immediately cut me off and said we know about it we are making a new shutter. I tried to explain to her I was calling about new issues they do not know of but she kept cutting me off, would not let me talk and hung up on me!
I called back, someone else answered and I asked to speak to the owner. The owner did not seem to care that I was just hung up on but was willing to come out and have a look at the installation.
He tried to first tell us there was nothing wrong with the installation which I wasn't accepting. You can look at the pictures and judge for yourself.
He then tried to blame it on the material of the blinds stating it is hard to work with. I refuted this by stating I have seen his blinds installed at a friend's house where the corners actually come together so I know it can be done properly.
He then said it was our window's not being perfectly square. I explained there is not a house built in the city that has 100% square walls and windows. This is why you measure.
He then offered to waive the outstanding balance and leave it as is but I was not happy with paying a little less for a damaged and improperly installed product.
He agreed to send someone back, remove the frames and come back 2 days later that to reinstall. He ensured no inconvenience to us (which did not happen).
Late November - After not hearing anything from Better Shade Co we went into the office to see if we could get a date for the repairs to be made. I felt they should have contacted us much earlier.
Early December - We scheduled someone to come in at 8am as we had an appointment at 9am. No one showed up until 8:20 which made us late for the appointment. Had I been told 8:20 I would have made the appointment at a different time/ date as it did not leave enough time for us to get to our appointment.
2 days later - We had to take off work for the installers to come (we initially were told they could work around our work schedule).
6 Month's after the deposit was paid we finally have shutters. I don't feel the headache dealing with this company was worth what we paid.
