Total Fence

After a no show, first estimator came on site. After three weeks of no follow up, I phoned company to be told that estimator left company and did not leave behind his notes on my case. Made appointment with another estimator.

Second estimator cancelled first appointment and then came on site and promised me a prompt estimate. Did not deliver his promise:I phoned three times to be finally told that they don’t do this type of fence. Why not tell me upfront instead of making me wait six weeks?
Future customers will pay for this waste of time and resources. Note that the amount is based on estimates from other companies.

My neighbor and I are beyond pleased with our new fence. Total Fence was excellent from the start to end of this project! The entire team was a joy to work with, friendly, reliable and very engaged. I would highly recommend Total Fence for any fencing project

Couldn't be any happier with Total Fence. They gave us a competitive price and staff were professional and helpful. Absolutely gorgeous, modern detailed, wrought iron fence (approx. 70 ft) installed with work was completed on time and as planned. Tonnes of compliments pouring in; transformed our yard. Regardless of some reviews posted on this site, we were thrilled and would recommend them.

We had Total Fence come and do a pressure treated wood fence for our yard. Not only did they provide us with some great advice at the beginning they did an amazing job. We were concerned about the timeline and they included an end date in our contract which showed a lot of integrity. Not only did they complete the fence within the timeline, they did it in 2 days weeks before our estimated end date. The first day they came and put the posts in, and the second day the fence was done. The quality is really good, and the price was very competitive. Overall I would totally recommend them for any fencing needs.

Update as of 2017 - We had a post that was warping, and we called the team. They responded immediately, and had some one come out to look at the fence within a week. They agreed it was warping, and replaced it in the following week for no charge!! I couldn't believe how quickly they dealt with it, and they left no mess and you can't tell a post was replaced at all. What a professional team! We couldn't be happier with the service we recieved, and I have recommended them to everyone I know.

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY

Since we were installing a cedar deck on a rubber membrane over our garage, we looked for a company who offered experience. Although Total Fence and Deck’s sales person, who is also their installer, did a great job selling himself and the company the end result was totally unsatisfactory. This company takes no pride in the quality of the material it uses, the quality of their workmanship or customer satisfaction.

Although the company does not normally replace decking boards they reluctantly replaced approximately 25% (boards either cracked or splintered) during installation. Due to inconsistent spacing there was an issue with the proper installation of the last board. Initially the last board was screwed partially on top of the second last board to ensure that the spacing at both ends of the deck was consistent. Since this was not acceptable the last 2 boards were removed. The second last board was trimmed to allow for the installation of the last board. Since the installer did not follow the terms of the contract he had to remove 1 inch from each side of the decking boards as they were touching the rubber membrane. Approximately 6 weeks after we made the final payment we realized that the last board was loose because it was secured by only 1 screw in each of the runners. The installer also suggested he slope the deck to accommodate for run-off even though the roof was already sloped. This left us with a 21 foot long deck that is 5 inches higher on one end than the other. If a patio set is put on this deck, it will look slanted!

Since our email attempt in early August, 2014 to contact Total Fence and Deck was unanswered after 6 business days, we filed a complaint with BBB. After our second email to BBB in which we requested that a representative from Total Fence and Deck contact us about our concerns and a possible resolution, we met with the manager who seemed to understand our concerns. He also took many pictures. The next contact was by telephone from the Vice President. When it was obvious that this conversation was going nowhere I requested that he put his response in writing. In the end, after 4 months of attempting to come to a solution with Total Fence and Deck, their VP offered to pay us less than a third of the cost of the deck without any admission of responsibility as a settlement. We refused that offer because we felt a full refund was the only option. BBB closed the file because we could not come to an agreement.

We are left with a deck that still has a lot of splintered and cracked boards, a loose board and is unsightly due to the slope. The deck will be removed this year and replaced with quality cedar by a company that takes pride in their work and values their customers. In my 30 plus years as a homeowner, Total Fence and Deck is the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with and I would NEVER recommend them.

These guys had a good price and the sales rep was very helpful and prompt about returning calls and answering my questions. They didn't charge extra for having to hand dig certain holes due to tree roots. I was a little uncertain when the unmarked work truck pulled up to install the fence a few days later -- maybe they subcontract out the work? But the crew we got did a professional job and were careful to damage as little of my garden as possible while removing the old wood fence and installing the new one. It's been a year and so far, so good.

We asked total fence to design a backyard deck for us and gave them creative control. Glenn did an outstanding job on his design and we get compliments on our deck on a daily basis. However, the install fo the deck was not as pleasent. The crew showed up late, didn't work full days and at one point our job got held off for a day as they had another job they deemed more important. After the deck was completed there were many defects that needed to be fixed, such as loose railings and steps. It took over two months to get these fixes. However, at the end of the job, after everything was fixed, Total Fence admitted that they lacked the proper customer service on this job and gave us a discount to make up for all the hassels. At the end of the day, I am happy with my deck and the price I paid and would recommend them to people who want a backyard deck and need some help with the designing of it.

We were redoing the deck. It was a busy time, we wanted a specific product and wanted to hire someone to get it done quickly and efficiently. The salesperson was great, but things fell apart at the installation as instructions were not clear to the subcontractor. they sent one person to do a two person job. There was lack of overall supervision which led to the worker not actually working ( being witnessed talking on the phone for hours, sitting around doing nothing, and then leaving early and not cleaning the job site of food waste)? We got rid of them after the job had already gone twice as long as it should have and the mediocre installation was going to need to be redone. It then took their head office 3 months to negotiate a close to the contract. We should have been suspect of their poor business practices earlier on and let them go after a day, instead of trying to work things out with them.

The product used was good, installation was mediocre and the attention to detail was lacking, which is disappointing when one pays premium dollars for something.
