Poor Workmanship / Zero Accountability
I wanted to share my recent experience dealing with A Plus Sealing.
In June 2024, I contacted A Plus Sealing to power wash, apply polymeric sand and seal my interlock driveway (approx. 1000 sq feet). At first, dealing with Alex at A Plus Sealing was good, very responsive to my emails and text messages in a timely manner. He provided me with a quote and answered all my questions. I went ahead with the project.
My experience dealing with A Plus Sealing from this point forward went down hill.
An Operator showed up on the scheduled day to power wash the driveway. To my surprise and dismay, the power wash machine he showed up with had a huge leak - the Operator actually sent his manager a photo of the leak. Despite this, the Operator setup and started to power wash the driveway. The leak was so bad that the pressure coming out of the machine was not much better than what I would be getting from my garden hose. I was able to convince the Operator that he was wasting his time. He agreed, left and return several hours later with a repaired and fully functional machine to complete the job.
This should have been my first clue and huge red flag as things did not get any better.
The Operator returned a few days later to complete the job i.e. apply polymeric sand and seal. The job came out less than ideal and not what I was expecting. There are, and continues to be, a number of deficiencies as follows:
1. During sealant application, there was a lot of streaking on the driveway. The Operator told me that the spray tip was faulty. A gentleman, by the name of Alex (who identified himself as a co-owner and apparently not the same person that I was originally dealing with), arrived on site shortly after to assist. He assured me that the streaks are normal and would disappear the next day once the surface was exposed to the sun. Well, that turned out to be incorrect as these streaks are still visible several months later. It is my understanding that roller marks or streaks occur as a result of incorrect application when the sealer was applied too heavily, unevenly, or without maintaining a wet edge.
2. Polymeric sand from the joints began to wash away after the first rain we got just a few days after the initial application. This issue, which I also understand is a result of incorrect application, has since become worse with subsequent rain falls.
3. It rained briefly on the day of sand/sealant application. The crew had to stop sealing about three quarters of the way through to wait for the rain to end. They finished sealing shortly after when the interlock pavers appeared to have dried. A few days later, a noticeable difference appeared between the section sealed pre and post rain fall. The sealant applied after the rain fall appears to have been compromised as this section became white and hazy.
The above issues were immediately brought to their attention during and after the job. At first, Alex texted be to say that they would stop by again to "assess in the next few weeks". For the next several weeks, I experienced constant delays. After nearly a month, and after a week worth of follow-up text and phone messages, Alex finally returned my call. Further to that discussion, and as a follow-up to my previous emails and text messages, I sent him another email detailing the above deficiencies with photos for review and in order for him to "mitigate" the situation. Since that brief phone call, Alex has not reached out, contacted me nor provided me with an update despite multiple follow-ups. After several months trying to contact him, Alex is no longer responding to my emails, no longer returning my text messages and not returning my call. There has been no plan provided or viable time lines as to when the discrepancies would be corrected. At time of writing, it has now been over 5 months since these issues were first brought to his attention.
Based on a couple of quotes received, I understand that it will now cost me a small fortune to correct the problem as we will now need to remove the old sealant, replace polymeric sand and reseal.
I have never experienced anything like this before. Most companies take pride in their work and take ownership and responsibility for their mistakes and correct them.
Waste of money. I made the mistake of paying in full on the day the job was completed when I should have seen all these red flags.
Shameful.
