No hot water!

I moved into a rental home and was told the water heater was a rental. I was a little skeptical of this, unsure if I liked the idea of a rental water heater seeing as I have never personally had a problem with one. However after living in my home for about 3 months we were losing our hot water rapidly. I called Reliance who carried the rental and the next day someone was there to repair the water heater and he noticed something else. Being in Cambridge, we have hard water and he heard the noise in the tank and told me it needed further service and would initiate this for me. Sure enough, the following day I get a call to set up a time for the follow-up appointment and they were really good about working with my schedule. The next service tech came out and he cleaned out the tank and since then I could not be more pleased with the performance of the tank. Both techs were very courteous and cleaned up after themselves. It is unfortunate to see only negative reviews from people displeased with their experiences; I felt it important to share my satisfaction with this company.

Thank you Relaince!

Combo water heater and furnace

Over a week without heat in total after they supposedly repaired the unit. I have a brand new home and my heat goes off repeatedly. When they get around to coming out it is a different guy every time. Most of the time they don't have the parts and I have to wait more days. They subcontract to Ocean Mechanical who then subcontract to Dynasty who never answer any phone calls. When you call Ocean Mechanical the customer service department answers in the Philipines. Service is extremely poor and everyone washes their hands of responsibility. So I'm on my second go around without heat in less than two weeks and there is no resolution in sight. POOR! POOR! POOR!

Furnace

We have one of thier "Total Comfort" agreements. On Tue (Dec/29/09) we called because our furnace was acting up and a tech came out and after spending some time on our furnace told us it needed a new board (something that controls the furnace) and he told us because of this the furnace could not be used and a part would be ordered and delivered to our house and when this part arrives to call and a tech will come out and fix the problem. After me, my wife and two young children spent a very cold night we waited for the part to arrive. Finally around 1:00 pm on Wed (Dec/30/09) the part finally arrived. We called Reliance and were told that the tech would be out the next day, after which I told them no way and we have already been without a furnace and need this thing to be fixed. After some more discussion it was agreed a tech would be sent that day. Well later that day a tech showed up and after he spent time he informed us they sent the wrong part. So to make a long story short... they have since sent out more wrong parts, we have made numerous calls to their so-called customer service and we are still waiting for our furnace to work and it is now 4:30 pm Friday, Jan 01, 2010. Hmmm, would I recommend them to any one? There is something about being on the FOURTH DAY and counting that makes someone a little hesitant about recommending these people.

removal of hot water tank

Called Reliance to pick up the 20+ year old hot water tank that had leaked in my basement, because we had replaced it with a tankless model. I was then informed it would cost me $65.00 for them to pick it up, or we could buy it out for $40.00, or we could drop it off at their office. This is how they treat long term customers? The woman I was talking to then tried to get me to rent the tankless model through a buy back program at $39.00 a month. Other places offer the rental of tankless models for $22.00 a month. This company is only concerned with making money and not customer satisfaction. I will never rent or buy anything from this company again, as well, I will never recommend this company to anyone. They didn't even appologize for the mess their tank made in my basement.

A/C Furnace

They started at 7am and stayed until 11pm at night. It was a really hot day and they worked through that without stopping,as there was a leak in the air conditioner. After they couldn't fix it they ended up replacing it the next day - they were very good.

But previous to this when they were trying to sell both the furance and air conditioner they pushed into a 14 seer A.C. because of the gov/grant. Later on we found out that we were mislead not only by Reliance, but also by ecoENERGY who did the blow test. We then found out we would not be getting the 200.00 dollar federal or the matching provincial grant.

Tankless water heater rental

Reliance is charging me $110 for 3 months to rent tankless water heater. I did a bit of research and found same water heater for about $1100 with taxes. So I decided to buyout rather than rent it, since the water heater had very minimum mechanical parts and made in Japan.

I enqured Reliance about buyout option and Reliance told me $2400. Then I told Reliance to remove the tank from my property, I was told that they would charge me $360 for that (all sort of charges, one of them is to drain...i don't really get it).

I bought a new home I didn't not chose Reliance. TOO EXPENSIVE.

MY DAD BOUGHT A HOUSE IN 2001 AND WATER TANK RENTAL WAS $15/MONTH. Same tank Reliance is renting for $22/month.

TELL YOUR BUILDER NOT TO CHOSE RELIANCE!!!

Hotwater tank rental

Reliance has very poor customer service. I replaced the tank with tankless and wanted to return their old tank which they said will be scrapped. They charged me $40 tank drop off fees and $65 account closing fees.

Very shady business practices because at the time of rental they specifically said there is no account closing fees. The customer service rep basically said they changed the rules and there is nothing I as a customer can do.

Water heater removal and instalation

We called reliance and they send someone to our house to install the new heater. He didn't have the correct tank in the car so he gave us a quote and left. He said if we left it under the stairs it would cost a lot in piping but if we moved it against the wall (which was not dead space at the time), it would fit under the alotted pipe budget. He also told us it as $50 for a power vent but we were ok with that. Another crew came a different day and installed it against the wall. My s/o asked if it was exactly what I had agreed to (they said yes) and then he signed the work order. No prices or additional costs were mentioned. When our bill showed up there was a $300 excess instalation fee. We call and call and call and they always have an excuse about why they will call us back later.... but never call back later. I don't care how many days it takes someone to send you a fax, how often the manager goes to conferiences or how long it takes you to manually pull my file- you should be able to deal with customer inquries in less than a week... it's been nearly a month and I'm so sick of calling 3x a week just to get te run around from different customer service people.
