A/C Repair

Raj from Convertible did a great job! He was courteous and professional. I am extremely satisfied with Raj, but the reason for giving a 7 out of 10 is because, $185 for one hour of work is highway robbery! This is not Raj's fault as I am pretty sure these prices are set by the company. If you reduce the prices I am pretty sure that you will get more frequent business, as there are many companies out there who offer the same services as well. Thank you for fixing my A/C Raj!

Company Response

Hi Damien, thank you for your review of Raj, he - like all of our staff are wonderful human beings. I'm sorry that you feel you paid too much, but I am here to assure you that you did not. Raj, nor us, set our rates -we follow the Flat Rate book that most HVAC companies use in Canada. The service call is $89 which includes 30 minutes of time, if it goes past that the next hourly rate is $75 + hst. So, you got exactly what we quoted you on the phone $89+75=164 plus hst ($21.32 tax) which totals $185. So we did not overcharge you at all, and we did not try to upsell you into spending anything more. And in fact we are swamped with repeat service customers for the very reason that we do give fair rates with excellent technicians that fix things properly. To employ the cream of the crop installers, to have 35 trucks on the road 24 hours a day, to have WSIB, 5 million dollars of Insurance, E.S.A, TSSA, and HRAI certifications and to be open 24 hours a day cost us a lot of money. It is these such expenditures that formulate the Flat Rate Book rates, and is how we know we are very competitive. Please do more research just for fun, it will prove I'm telling you the real facts. We never overcharge people, read our homestars reviews, most people mention how well priced we are :)
Thanks again for your nice comments on Raj, I will pass it on to him. Thank you, Marnie Amodeo General Manager

Air Conditioning Install

Air conditioning had finally become too weak for the summer heat. Called Convertible Based upon home star reviews and was not disappointed at all. Everything from the first call to the appointment with Sean, to the install few went well above expectations. Well done guys! I'll be calling when my furnace gives out in a few years. I have already referred a couple of friends, one of which already booked an appointment.

Furnace, Humidifier, Air Cleaner

After deciding to replace my 30 yr old furnace, I contacted several companies and did my research. I decided to go with Convertible as the salesman was friendly and knowledge able and the pricing very competitive. Being that it is a well established business, in operation for many years, gave me a sense of comfort that they would be reliable. They were very willing to work around my schedule . The installers were, friendly and acted in a professional manner. They finished the job within the stated time frame and left the work area neat and clean. I would, and have already recommended this company to friends and co-workers.

Replace Furnace and Air Conditioner

My 17 year old furnace and air conditioner needed replacing and after researching various companies I contacted Convertible Air. Chris came to my home and after inspecting, provided a quote for several different options. He was knowledgeable and patient with my questions, explaining the options clearly, including warranties and OPA rebates. The installers, Brandon and Josh, arrived on time, worked steadily, were also patient with my questions and cleaned up well. Brandon even phoned the evening before the installation to confirm the time. They tested everything before leaving and explained operation of the new thermostat to me. My one and only concern relates to the air conditioner. Chris had thought the new air conditioner would fit on the existing brackets. I'm unable to have it placed on the ground as that area slopes (limited options for placement as I'm in a townhouse). The new air conditioner was slightly wider than the brackets so a new concrete slab was placed on the brackets with the air conditioner sitting on top of that. It does appear balanced and stable. I did mention this to Chris on the phone the next day and he was reassuring that Convertible Air stands behind it's products and installations and should I have any difficulties to call him and it will be rectified. Given my experience this far I would certainly recommend Convertible Air. Thank you to Chris, Brandon and Josh.

The salesman, Sean, was very friendly and helpful, even spotted some things other companies hadn't mentioned. He also stood behind his products and didn't try to sell me the most expensive ones. The installers were courteous and quick.

Air conditioner install

Our air conditioner packed it in. After a few quotes, we decided on this company. The salesman was great. The install day came. First, the installer was late. I called and was told our unit had to be picked up from a Toronto location and the installer was stuck in traffic, fine. When he arrived, he looked at the existing unit and the area near the furnace. He was going to use the existing lines, claiming they would be flushed out and covered under warranty. They are 20 year old lines. My father, who was at my house, told him no, we wanted the lines replaced since this is what we were told by the salesman. The install seemed to go ok, however, the installer spilled oil on our new driveway (we purchased kitty litter to try to get it out...still trying), there were metal shards on the floor, mud on the floor, putty stuck to the carpet etc. I cleaned that up, fine. Then my husband came home and inspected the unit. They did not replace the slab, which we have on our quote and the unit is not level so when it rains, water is going to pool up against the side of the unit. My husband is leery as there seems to be some wires that are more open than he thinks is safe. And also the new line in the basement is touching an electrical box in the ceiling, which he isn't happy about. So, in all, the salesman was lovely, the installer was nice, but the job is not really to my satisfaction.

Hello Corrie. I appreciate you taking the time to leave the review above and speaking with me on the phone today about the job. As I expressed to you we will be rectifying every aspect of this job at zero cost to you. It is not our intention to ever use the existing lines and I am happy that we did replace them that day, it should not have even been an issue the day of installation, I sincerely apologize for that. In regards to what we spoke of on the phone about the oil spill from the old ac unit, we will be covering all costs to repair your drive way back to the way it original state. Sometimes old 20 year old ac's do that and my crew should have been more prepared to anticipate that, like they are trained to. We will pay for the cost of that cleaning. It is in our installers training to work as neat as possible on all jobs and clean up after so there is no work for you. As you told me on the phone you have already cleaned this up so I would like to extend a $100 refund to you for your time. This is not how my installers are trained and I appreciate your feedback so I can make sure it wont happen again on any other job. I am sending back to you my most Senior Technician from our company to completely look over the job that was done. I am going to instruct him to go over the job with a "fine tooth comb" and rectify anything necessary or even completely re-install the entire job if that what it takes to give you a perfect installation. Also, the concrete slab will be replaced with a brand new one at this time. We do take out Electrical Safety Authority permits out on all jobs so I can guarantee the unit will be safe, but it will be one of the things my Senior Tech will be looking over have re-certified. Thank you again for leaving your feedback on homestars and on the phone with me today. It is very important to us that every job is done to perfection and all customers are completely satisfied, mistakes are sometimes made but I can assure to you that we do take them very seriously and learn from every bit of feedback good or bad. I look forward to scheduling my tech to come to you next week and proving to you that we are a top notch company. Thank you for your patience in this matter. I have given you my cell phone please do not hesitate for a moment to reach out to me any time of day or night if you need anything. - Chris Amodeo, Production, Manager Convertible Htg and AC inc

Furnace installation

We just had a new furnace installed by Convertible and we are very happy with the service. We had Chris visit our home for a consultation and he was very professional and informative. We called Chris with some question and he was ready and willing to answer our questions. When the furnace was installed, the technicians were very patient and answered all of our questions. The women whom we spoke to at head office was friendly and very helpful. The experience was wonderful and we would recommend this company to others !
